MAKEUP PROCESS vs. FINAL RESULT 🎬

What you see: a finished commercial.

What you don’t see: the HOURS of work that happened before the makeup even touched the talent.

This was such a fun project assisting the talented and lovely Jenny Egidio Jenny Egidio, we didn’t just show up and start doing hair and makeup. We spent hours planning, measuring, adjusting the size, placement and proportions of the makeup to translate the client and director’s vision onto camera exactly the way they imagined it.

Because commercial hair and makeup isn’t always about creating the beauty, glam and the prettiest look.

Sometimes it’s about problem-solving.
Continuity.
Proportion.
Camera tests.
Tiny adjustments.
And understanding how a creative concept needs to translate from an idea → a real person → the final frame.

That’s one of my favorite parts of working as a commercial hair and makeup artist in Las Vegas. The audience may only see the final few seconds, but behind those seconds is an entire team obsessing over details.

And THAT final reveal? 🤌🏼 Worth it.

If your Plastic magnetic makeup palettes are scratched, cloudy or hazy from constantly traveling, cleaning and working out of your kit… don’t replace them yet.

I tested a way to restore the scratched plastic on my Kitpak palettes and the before + after are worth watching.

MAKEUP ARTISTS! tattoo coverage is one of those skills you might not use every day… but when a client needs it, you NEED to know what you’re doing.

Especially if you want to work in pageants, bridal, production, film/TV, red carpet or special events.

Covering a tattoo properly is so much more than grabbing the fullest coverage concealer in your kit.

You need to understand:

🎨 Color theory — neutralizing the tattoo before adding skin tones
🖌️ Layering — building opacity without creating a thick, obvious patch
🧴 Texture — keeping the coverage looking like SKIN
🎯 Color matching — matching the surrounding body, not automatically using the client’s foundation shade
💨 Setting — increasing longevity and minimizing transfer onto wardrobe
💡 Lighting — because something that disappears in your makeup chair can suddenly become visible under stage lights, flash or camera

Your contestant may have a tattoo that needs to disappear under bright stage lighting while surviving wardrobe changes, heat, movement and hours of competition.

That’s when technique matters.

The bigger your skill set is, the fewer times you have to tell a client:

“Sorry, I don’t know how to do that.”

Tattoo camouflage is one of those techniques worth learning BEFORE the day someone sits in your chair and asks for it.

MAKEUP ARTISTS! before you replace those scratched, cloudy, dull palettes… TRY THIS!

If you’ve been building a professional makeup kit for a while, you already know the struggle. Your beautiful magnetic palettes start out looking brand new… then after traveling to jobs, sanitizing, packing, unpacking and living inside your kit, the plastic starts looking scratched, hazy and tired.

So I tested a way to restore mine and LOOK AT THAT DIFFERENCE. 😳

For this video I’m restoring my Kitpak magnetic palettes, which I use for depotting and condensing products in my professional makeup kit.

And no… I was NOT ready to replace all of them just because the outside looked worn. Not in this economy 😂
