I feel like I say this every time I make a new batch of Black Raspberry Vanilla soap, but again - I really love the look of this one! This technique is called a drop swirl and this newest batch has really cool shapes and swishes in it. Every single bar is completely different.

Boomtown Brothels and Bubbles: Award-Winning Author Strikes Gold with Immersive New Novel Release, Inspires Soapy Companion

In a unique collaboration, award-winning author Kimberly Burns and artisanal bath and body boutique The Science of Bliss today debut their dual creations: the highly anticipated novel “The Redemption of Mattie Silks” and its olfactory counterparts, “Soapy Smith” and “Mattie Silks” handcrafted soaps.

Based on a true story, The Redemption of Mattie Silks is the tale of the Old West's most successful madam, Mattie Silks, and her feud with a murdering con man with the charming name of Soapy Smith. To further envelope the reader in the vividly written tale, The Science of Bliss brings a sensory experience with two new soaps to create a companion, historically inspired olfactory narrative to the story.

“Mattie Silks” artisan soap is scented with a fragrance of a popular curative of the time. It was used for everything from perfume to cleaning, to medicine. It was used for freshening up clothing and bedding as well as mouthwash. The fragrance notes include citrus like sweet orange, neroli, bergamot and lemon; spices like cinnamon and clove; and floral lavender, rose and jasmine. The soap is naturally colored with rose clay and activated charcoal.

Inspired by another character in the novel, “Soapy Smith” handcrafted soap is scented with a complex blend of rum, to***co, cinnamon, hay, a touch of citrus, and woody notes. It can transport one to a seat in a late 1800’s saloon, seated next to the notorious swindler Soapy Smith himself. It is naturally colored by activated charcoal and speckled with seeds of the poppy flower as a nod to the o***m trade of the time. The top features gold mica-dusted salt to resemble gold nuggets in tribute to the gold mining towns Soapy and Mattie lived in.

“Mattie Silks was a brilliant, savvy businesswoman who did whatever was needed to ensure those she cared about survived and thrived. Soapy Smith is an equally interesting and complicated man. He often proclaimed himself to be a great public benefactor since his crooked card games and cons taught valuable lessons to young men,” said Kimberly Burns, author of The Redemption of Mattie Silks. “I wanted Mattie to be able to share her story from her perspective, to reclaim the narrative for herself. Her story is one of determination, and ultimately, her own brand of redemption.”

We’ve created an historical experience.”

We created a soap for our friends at Mystic-Sisters. It smells like sweet flowers, fresh fruits, clean bubbles, and magical woods. Based on our test samples, I can already tell it's going to be an absolute favorite.
