Expectation vs Reality

Trying to improve your egg quality? Here’s something important to know first:

There’s no proven food, vitamin, or “fertility hack” that can reverse age-related changes in egg quality. But you can support your overall reproductive health and improve the conditions for conception.

Here are some evidence-based steps worth focusing on:

1. Start with a balanced diet.
Build meals around vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, healthy fats, and quality protein. There’s no single “fertility food” that guarantees better eggs.

2. Take a prenatal vitamin with folic acid.
ACOG recommends at least 400 mcg of folic acid daily starting at least one month before pregnancy. This helps prevent neural tube defects—it’s important for pregnancy health, even though it doesn’t “improve egg quality.”

3. Maintain a healthy weight.
Being significantly underweight or overweight can affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Aim for a healthy weight rather than extreme dieting.

4. Stay physically active.
Regular moderate exercise supports overall health before pregnancy. ACOG recommends about 150 minutes of moderate activity per week for most people.

5. Avoid smoking and recreational drugs.
These can negatively affect reproductive health, so stopping is one of the most meaningful lifestyle changes you can make when trying to conceive.

6. Keep alcohol and caffeine in check.
ASRM recommends limiting alcohol and caffeine while trying to conceive.

7. Don’t overlook age.
Egg quantity and quality naturally decline with age, and the decline becomes more significant in the mid-to-late 30s. This is one reason timing matters when planning pregnancy.

8. Be careful with “egg quality” supplements.
Products marketed as fertility boosters—including herbal or antioxidant supplements—often have limited evidence. Talk with your OB/GYN or fertility specialist before starting them.

And remember: egg quality isn’t something you can measure perfectly at home. If you’re concerned about fertility, especially if you’re 35 or older, a conversation with a reproductive health professional can help you understand your individual situation.

Think you might be pregnant? Before you take that test, there are a few things that can make a BIG difference in getting an accurate result.

Here’s the simple, medically informed way to do it:

1. Check the expiration date.
An expired test may not give you a reliable result.

2. Test at the right time.
Most home pregnancy tests are more accurate after the first day of a missed period. Testing too early can sometimes give a false-negative result.

3. Follow your specific test’s instructions.
Different kits work differently. Some use a urine stream, while others require you to collect urine in a cup.

4. Use first-morning urine if testing early.
It’s usually more concentrated, which can make pregnancy hormone (hCG) easier to detect.

5. Wait for the exact time listed in the instructions.
Don’t check too early—or interpret the test long after the recommended reading window.

6. Understand the result.
A positive result usually means hCG was detected and pregnancy is likely. A negative result means hCG wasn’t detected, but if you tested early, pregnancy may still be possible.

7. If the result is negative but your period still doesn’t come:
Consider repeating the test after a few days or contacting a healthcare professional.

One important thing: A home pregnancy test can tell you whether hCG is detected, but it doesn’t confirm how far along a pregnancy is or whether everything is progressing normally.

If you get a positive result, schedule appropriate prenatal care with a qualified healthcare professional. ❤️

10 Amazing Pregnancy Week Facts: What Happens From 0–40 Weeks 🤰

Pregnancy is basically 40 weeks of “Wait… my body is doing WHAT?” 😅

Here are 10 fascinating facts about how pregnancy changes week by week:

Weeks 1–2: You’re technically not pregnant yet. Pregnancy is usually dated from the first day of your last menstrual period, before conception even happens.

Around Week 4: The fertilized egg may implant into the uterus, and early pregnancy hormones begin to rise.

Weeks 5–6: The embryo is tiny, but major development is already underway—including the early formation of the brain, spinal cord, and heart.

Week 8: Those tiny arms and legs are developing rapidly. Your baby is still incredibly small, but the basic body plan is taking shape.

Week 12: By the end of the first trimester, many major organs and body structures have formed and continue maturing.

Around Week 16: Your baby can make facial movements, and you may begin noticing changes in your own body becoming more obvious.

Around Week 20: You’re roughly halfway through pregnancy. Many people have an anatomy ultrasound around this stage to closely examine the baby’s development.

Weeks 24–28: Your baby’s lungs and nervous system continue developing, and movements may become much more noticeable.

Week 32: Your baby is gaining weight quickly and continuing to mature. Brain development is especially active during the third trimester.

Weeks 37–40: Your baby is considered early term at 37 weeks and reaches full term at 39 weeks. Those final weeks are important for continued growth and maturation.

The incredible part? Every single week brings a new stage of development. Your body and your baby are constantly changing—even when you can’t see it happening. ❤️

Pregnancy can look different for everyone. For personal medical questions or concerns, always speak with your OB/GYN or qualified healthcare provider.
