Protecting your homeβs foundation starts with smart drainage! π§οΈπ‘
Instead of letting roof runoff pool around the house, this setup directs the water down a copper downspout and straight into a catch basin. The water then flows safely away through an underground perforated pipe buried in drainage gravel, all topped with clean river stone for a polished landscaping look. This is exactly how you achieve proper foundation protection and keep your basement dry!
Have you checked where your home's downspouts are draining lately? π
Proper drainage is a game-changer for your home's exterior! π§οΈπ‘ Just look at how clean and functional this setup is.
Roof water is directed through a beautiful bronze gutter and downspout system right into a stone catch basin. Instead of washing out the yard and pooling near the house, the water passes through filter gravel and is carried safely away by an underground drain. Plus, the landscape buffer adds a great touch of green while ensuring crucial foundation protection.
Does your home have an underground drain, or do your downspouts empty right onto the lawn? Let me know below! π
Obsessed with this brilliant downspout hack! π§οΈπ±
Instead of letting rainwater just pool by the foundation, this setup directs the white downspout right into a stunning raised planter box built against the house. The water flows down a clever central channel filled with river rocks, passively watering the gorgeous leafy greens and purple plants growing on either side. I absolutely love how the dark stained wood and black metal corner brackets give the whole bed such a clean, modern look while serving a practical purpose
Such a smart way to manage roof drainage while keeping your garden thriving! Has anyone else incorporated rainwater runoff directly into their raised beds like this? Let me know below! π
Finally tackling that pesky drainage issue! πͺπ
Instead of letting water pool right next to the foundation, this setup directs the runoff safely away from the house. The white downspout feeds into a PVC attachment featuring a green cleanout grate to catch debris, which then connects directly to a long black corrugated drainage pipe. The whole trench is carefully lined with black landscape fabric and temporarily secured with bricks to keep everything in place before it gets covered up. It's dirty work, but protecting the foundation is so worth it! π§οΈπ οΈ

Weekend project in full swing! π Finally getting this yard drainage sorted out to keep water away from the foundation. Digging the trench was a serious workout, but getting the pipe laid and the rock basin set up feels like a massive win. Bring on the heavy rain! π§οΈπͺπ‘
Getting down and dirty today! βοΈ Finally burying the downspouts and routing this new drainage system away from the foundation. Tying in the PVC pipes before we fill this trench all back in. One step closer to a permanently dry basement! π π§πͺ
Another day, another drainage project! π οΈπ¦ Making sure all that roof runoff gets directed far away from the foundation.
Got the downspout tied directly into the new underground line, complete with a cleanout grate to catch any leaves before they can cause a clog. Ran the solid blue pipe through the trench and tied it right into the main white line using a Y-fitting to keep the water flowing smoothly. The reciprocating saw was definitely the MVP today for getting these pipe cuts perfect.
Digging these trenches is always a workout, but getting the whole system tied together makes it totally worth it. Who else is spending their weekend in the dirt? π
Making sure this foundation stays bone dry! π π§
We spent the day trenching out the yard to finally get these downspouts buried and routed far away from the house. Got the solid white PVC laid down, complete with a green cleanout grate right at the base to catch any debris before it can clog the line. Tied both downspout lines together with a Y-fitting to keep all that runoff flowing smoothly down the slope. Pro-tip: keeping the excavated dirt on tarps makes the backfilling and cleanup way easier later!
Who else is tackling some heavy yard work this weekend? Let me know below! π
Ever wonder what actually goes on underground to keep a house dry? π§οΈπ‘ As weβve been deep into drainage and walkway projects lately, I wanted to share this awesome visual breakdown of a proper foundation drainage system!
This cross-section shows exactly how it should be done to protect your home. The blue waterproofing membrane sits right against the foundation, while the filter fabric wraps around the drainage gravel to stop dirt from clogging up the works. All that groundwater filters down through the rocks, into the orange perforated pipe, and gets safely carried away to the outlet flow. π§π οΈ
Proper prep and water management are everything before you start pouring concrete or building over a space! Has anyone else ever had to dig one of these trenches by hand? Let me know below! π
Weekend project in full swing! π οΈ Finally getting the foundation drainage sorted out around the cabin. We've got the trench dug, the dimpled membrane laid down, and all the piping connected before we bury it. Itβs backbreaking work, but itβll definitely be worth it to keep everything dry when the heavy rains hit! π π§οΈπ‘
