I’m Denesia, professional Makeup Artist and Creative behind Artistry by Denesia, currently working toward my return to Los Angeles, California, where my makeup career began. 🌴✨

😂 Okay, let’s be clear… this picture is NOT exactly a tutorial on how to cover dark eye circles! The stars are cute, though! ✨⭐️💗

But honestly, this is a fun example of how you can take something you would normally want to conceal and turn it into an editorial, creative makeup moment. If you’re doing a photoshoot, fashion story, creative campaign, or just want something different, you don’t always have to hide everything—you can make it part of the look. 💄✨

NOW, LET’S TALK ABOUT ACTUALLY COVERING DARK CIRCLES. 👀

Dark circles can come from several different things, including genetics, pigmentation, visible blood vessels, allergies, lack of sleep, dehydration, aging, or the natural hollowness/shadows underneath the eyes. So there isn’t one technique that works identically for everyone.

🧴 SKINCARE FIRST
Before reaching for concealer:

✨ Keep the under-eye area hydrated. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides can help support the delicate skin around the eyes and make dryness less noticeable.

☀️ Don’t skip sun protection. Sun exposure can contribute to pigmentation, so broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and sunglasses are important.

💧 Stay hydrated and prioritize sleep. These won’t magically erase genetic dark circles, but dehydration and poor sleep can make the area look more tired and shadowed.

👀 Don’t constantly rub your eyes. Irritation and rubbing can contribute to swelling and make discoloration more noticeable.

💄 MAKEUP METHOD
Here’s where color correction becomes your best friend!

1️⃣ Prep
Moisturize the under-eye area and allow the skincare to settle.

2️⃣ Identify the undertone.
Look at what you’re actually trying to neutralize rather than automatically grabbing the lightest concealer.

3️⃣ Color correct selectively.
A peach/salmon corrector can help neutralize certain blue or purple tones, while deeper orange/red correctors may be more appropriate for deeper skin tones with stronger blue, purple, or brown discoloration. The goal is neutralization—not painting the entire under-eye orange.

4️⃣ Use a skin-tone concealer.
Apply it where you actually need coverage instead of piling product underneath the entire eye.

5️⃣ Blend—don’t overwork it.
Too much product can settle into fine lines and actually draw more attention to the area.

6️⃣ Set lightly.
A small amount of finely milled powder can help with creasing, but you don’t need to bake a delicate under-eye until it looks dry.

And here’s a professional makeup-artist tip: dark circles aren’t always pigmentation. Sometimes the darkness you’re seeing is actually a shadow from the natural structure or hollowness beneath the eye. Makeup can camouflage that shadow, but skincare isn’t going to completely change facial structure.

So whether you’re going for natural coverage, full glam, HDTV/4K makeup, or an editorial look, the key is figuring out what you’re actually seeing first and choosing your technique from there. 💗

And yes… you can always put some stars on it too. 😂⭐️

🖤🤍 BLACK & WHITE STILL REVEALS THE ARTISTRY.

A makeup artist is just as important behind a black-and-white image as they are in a full-color photograph.

When color is removed, skin texture, dimension, contrast, structure, highlights, shadows, and blending become even more important. Every detail of the makeup has to work with the lighting and camera to create the right visual story.

✨ The complexion has to be properly balanced.
✨ Contour and highlight help create dimension.
✨ Blending becomes critical because harsh transitions can become much more noticeable.
✨ Eyes, brows, lips, and facial structure still need to photograph beautifully.
✨ The makeup must complement the lighting, styling, concept, and mood of the image.

Black-and-white photography doesn’t hide makeup artistry — it challenges it.
