Violet Botanical Skincare
The story of Violet Botanical Skincare is deeply personal—a mission rooted in the love of my family and determination. I refused to accept this as our reality.
As a wife and mother, I was desperate to find gentle relief for my husband and son's dry skin due to eczema. I refused to accept steroid creams as the only answer. The more I learned, the more horrified I became. These creams didn’t just mask the problem; they often made it worse, stunting the skin’s natural growth and leading to the dreaded Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW)—a severe reaction that occurs when these creams are stopped after prolonged use. I needed something better—something that wouldn’t just treat their skin, but would nurture, moisturize, and soothe it. I thought back to the wisdom of my grandmother and the generations of African traditions she embodied. She always had a remedy for every ailment—a potion, a salve, a concoction she whipped up with ingredients from the earth. Her ‘old wives' remedies’ were legendary in our family, though we never knew exactly what they were called. Inspired by her example, I embarked on a mission to create natural, effective solutions that would truly moisturize and soothe my family’s skin. In 2014, I created my first batch of body butter right in my kitchen, using Shea butter, nutrient-rich oils, and essential oils—pure, natural ingredients I could trust. The results were more than I could have hoped for. My husband and son finally found relief from their dry skin, and we all began using the body butter as a daily moisturizer. Our skin took on a healthy glow and felt softer than ever. But it didn’t stop there. I shared the body butter with family and friends. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive—they saw the same visible improvements, the same healthy glow. It became clear that this was more than just skincare; it was a way to honor the wisdom of my ancestors and to care for my family in the purest way possible. And so, Violet Botanical Skincare was born—a labor of love, inspired by my family and driven by a desire to offer natural, effective solutions to others. Every product is crafted with the same care and dedication that I put into that first batch, using only the finest organic and wild-harvested African botanical ingredients. Because for me, this isn’t just business—it’s personal.
I'm not going to pretend it was always calm.
Sometimes sharing research with my son turned into a lecture. He'd push back — wanting to try whatever his friends were using, because that's what friends do, they compare notes.
I'd have to stop and explain: everyone's skin is different. What works for his friend might be exactly the wrong thing for him. One size does not fit all, especially with eczema-prone skin.
I talk about the honest version of these conversations — heated moments included — in this week's video.

The hardest part of letting go isn't what you'd think. Tell us — what's been hardest for you?
The rule I used to decide what to hand over to my son — and what I still hold onto. What's your non-negotiable? 👇
"Moisture-wicking" sounds like exactly what eczema-prone skin needs. Here's why it isn't always.
These fabrics are engineered to pull sweat away from your skin and spread it across the surface so it evaporates faster. That's the whole design goal.
But here's what gets missed: sweat still has to sit on your skin and travel through the fabric before it evaporates. That window matters more than you'd think — especially for skin that's already barrier-compromised.
I broke down the full mechanism in this week's video — including what actually happened when my son wore this fabric every day.

He noticed something about his own skin that took me completely by surprise.
He'd been wearing the same moisture-wicking undershirts every day for who knows how long. He told me himself — on his own, no prompting — that they weren't doing what he thought. His skin was reacting, and he'd finally connected the dots.
That's not something I taught him in that moment. That's years of paying attention finally showing up as his own instinct.
We're digging into exactly why that fabric backfired — full breakdown coming this Sunday.
Follow along so you don't miss it. 🎥

Moisture-wicking fabric is marketed as the smart choice for sweat. For eczema-prone skin, it can be exactly the opposite.
Synthetic fabrics don't absorb sweat the way natural fibers do. When sweat sits against skin that's already sensitive, it can trigger irritation instead of preventing it.
That's exactly what happened to my son. He wore his moisture-wicking undershirts every single day, doing exactly what the label promised — and his skin.
"Wicking" moisture away isn't the same as being gentle on skin. His skin needed the second one.

Save this if you or your kid deal with sweat-triggered flares.
This summer, my son — a senior in college, three years living on his own — came home with the usual mountain of laundry. Before I could say anything, he asked if he could research a better detergent himself.
If you've been the one doing all the research, all the reminding, all the label-reading for your kid's eczema... you know exactly what that moment felt like.
I said the whole thing out loud in this week's video — the moment, what changed, and what I want every parent still in the thick of it to hear.

If you've spent years managing your kid's eczema, here's what nobody tells you: it sinks in slower than you'd like — and then all at once.
For years, the sunscreen, the fabric swaps, the label-reading — all of it came from me. He tolerated it because I asked him to.
This year, he told me his moisture-wicking undershirts were making things worse, not better. He noticed it. He named it. Nobody had to point it out.
That's not a small thing. That's years of care finally becoming his own.
If you're still doing the research for your kid right now —

He came home with a mountain of laundry this summer. Before I could say anything, he asked ME a question I'd been waiting years to hear.
Can I look into a better detergent?
Not "can you buy me one." Not silence while I handled it like every summer before this one.
He's a senior now. He's lived on his own for three years. And for the first time, he was the one bringing the research to me — not the other way around.
That question was the whole moment. Here's why →

I've been in that exact spot. 2 AM. Sitting in the dark. Willing myself not to scratch.
This is what I did. Save this for the next time it happens — because having a plan in that moment makes all the difference.
