Sunshine doesn’t clock out after summer. ☀️
Every year, fall shows up and people start thinking, “Well, my tan is fading… see ya in spring.”
But a tan is only the part you can see.
When UVB reaches your skin, it starts the body’s vitamin D₃ process. Your body then does the rest of the work through the liver and kidneys.
That is why sunshine has always been about more than color to us.
And before anyone gets carried away… no, this is not me telling you to go bake yourself outside for six hours. Obviously. Haha.
Your skin type matters. Your timing matters. Consistency matters. A routine is not a race.
What a lot of people do not realize is that fall changes the sunlight equation. The days get shorter. The sun sits lower. And even when it looks bright and beautiful outside, the UVB conditions are different than they were in July.
So before you automatically put everything on pause until spring, it is worth understanding what you are actually putting on pause.
At SōlShine, we talk to our clients about responsible routines based on their skin and their goals. No one-size-fits-all nonsense.
What do you miss most when summer ends: the warmth, longer days, a little color, or your sunshine routine?
For questions about vitamin D status or personal health needs, talk with a qualified healthcare professional.

👁️ WEAR. THE. GOGGLES.
Every. Single. Time.
And before anyone panics: my retinal surgery was NOT caused by tanning. 😂 I’m smarter than that. But since I happen to have this very dramatic photo, we’re going to use it for a little eye-protection PSA.
When you tan, closing your eyes is not eye protection. Neither is throwing a towel over your face. UV exposure to your eyes can cause damage, and that damage can be cumulative — meaning you may not notice a problem today, tomorrow, or even years from now.
Repeated UV exposure can contribute to damage affecting:
👁️ Night vision
🌈 Color vision
🔥 Photokeratitis — essentially a UV burn to the cornea
👓 Cataracts and other eye damage
And here’s the part people need to understand: some vision damage cannot simply be corrected later with surgery or medication. Loss of color or night vision may be permanent.
A few things I hear all the time:
“I’ll just wear sunglasses.”
Nope. They aren't designed as tanning-bed eye protection, and besides — hello, raccoon eyes. 🦝
“I put a towel over my face.”
A towel is not approved UV eye protection. It may keep your face from tanning while still allowing UV to reach your eyes.
“I just keep my eyes closed.”
Your eyelids are not tanning goggles.
This is exactly why we provide FDA-compl
iant protective eyewear and why we insist that you use it properly for every tanning session.
You don't get bonus points for being tough. 😉
Nobody is immune to UV eye damage. Nobody is Superman. 🦸
Wear the goggles. Protect your vision. Get your tan.
And again, for the people in the back: my eye surgery had nothing to do with tanning. I just couldn't pass up the photo opportunity. 😂

Bear with me. This isn’t as exciting as a TikTok reel, but I promise it’s worth the read if you’ve ever spent money on red light therapy.
For anyone tired of wasting money on weak red light, this is the part that matters: dose.
Dose is the usable light energy that reaches your tissue during a session. It is measured in joules per square centimeter (J/cm²). More time under a low-output device does not automatically mean you received the same dose as one properly dosed therapeutic session.
Red and near-infrared light work through photobiomodulation. When that light reaches your cells, it is absorbed by the mitochondria, which produce ATP (cellular energy). The amount of energy you receive in one session matters because your body responds to that dose. It does not store unused light energy for later.
So, three lower-dose sessions do not necessarily create the same biological response as one therapeutic session. The dose-response curve matters. The technology matters. And honestly, your money matters too.
We put the full breakdown, including the differences between lower-output devices and therapeutic-grade red + near-infrared systems, in the blog here:

I’ve heard every excuse in the book for skipping lotion. 🙄
From “it’s too expensive” to the classic “it gets in my hair” (still trying to figure that one out...), most of these myths are actually costing you more time and money in the long run.
If you’re tired of wasting sessions, wasting gas, and wondering why your tan isn't hitting that next level, it’s time for a reality check.
Swipe through to see the 8 most common myths we’re debunking at SōlShine today. Your skin—and your wallet—will thank you. 💅✨

The "no safe tan" crowd left out some important information.
New research is confirming what a lot of us already suspected — that sunlight does things for your body that no supplement can replicate. Serotonin. Circadian rhythm. Immune support. The studies are there. The nuance just never made it into the headlines.
The message for decades has been: avoid UV, wear SPF 100, stay inside. And yes, overexposure is a real problem. Nobody's arguing that.
But there's a difference between overexposure and controlled, responsible sun exposure. And that difference got completely lost in the noise.
Swipe through for the full breakdown — and send this to someone who needs to hear it.
