Laura Shull Art
Laura Shull is a working artist living in the metro Atlanta area. Her oil paintings primarily feature women unabashedly indulging in moments of delight.
She creates her own costumes, dresses models in hand-styled wigs and accessories, and stages elaborate backdrops in her home studio in order to try and convey a sense of naturalism. Her inspirations are the Rococo movement, French pastries, and what it means to be a “lady”.

I recently made the decision to leave the studio I was renting for the last 4.5 years, and move my practice back home.
While I loved the energy of my old studio and having the opportunity to meet so many lovely people at open houses, I came to realize that I thrive best in quiet, intimate spaces where I can focus deeply on my craft.
I’m trying to make it a habit to attend figure drawing groups so I don’t spiral into absolute hermitude, and I’m going to have to make an effort to remember that fresh air and other people are just as important as getting my brush strokes just right!
It’s been a refreshing change of pace getting my little corner just right and getting valuable feedback from my cats while I work. Here’s to reassessing and listening to what your gut tells you.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared something here, so I wanted to catch up and show you the details of my contribution to the upcoming Passport show.
When I first thought about the theme, I imagined places I’ve traveled to and places I’d love to see one day, but I kept coming back to the idea of capturing that moment when your mind starts to drift somewhere else entirely. Most of my traveling happens that way… while staring off into space, or when I close my eyes to fall asleep.
The Passport group runs April 17th to May 10th

4 New Small Originals Now Available! 🖼️🎀✨
These are some of the brightest paintings I’ve ever made! I think painting in brighter light for the last few years has something to do with it, and also just a desire to create happy little moments of escapism.
You can see all 4 in my shop, listed under “Small Originals”

It’s time for part two of this behind the scenes look into the painting process for this tea party still life painting on a vintage mirror 🪞
Is my studio practice a little bit of Level 1 Hoarding but make it aesthetic + trinket shopping addiction? Probably! But we’re all different and that’s what makes the world go ‘round.

This little oil painting of a rococo-inspired beauty enjoying strawberry cake is my piece for the Wild Card Show at • Every artist had free rein to create what they wanted, so I went full rococo indulgence in a sweet little ornate frame 🍓🍰✨ The show opens tomorrow in Petaluma, CA!
