Meet Morgan Blaydes our new Speech Language Pathologist. She joined Meadowview 6 weeks ago and is a wonderful addition to our Rehabilitation Department! Morgan is a Fleming County native and very excited about providing services to the community she grew up in and loves.

Morgan is a state licensed speech-language pathologist clinical fellow (CF-SLP) who is specifically trained to treat disorders and impairments of speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognitive communication in both pediatric and adult populations. She believes in a collaborative, function-based approach to treatment in order to accomplish patient centered goals. Morgan has a special interest in the pediatric population treating children with autism spectrum disorder and late language emergence. She has also conducted and presented her own research pertaining to training and treatment practices of speech-language pathologists for persons with dementia.

Exercise Innovation

Exercise Innovation. The first patient is 89 years old and suffered a severe fracture of the femur, which involved his knee joint. He was barely able to stand and at high risk of falls when he started physical therapy. In this video he is working on leg, core and arm strength without risking a fall. On discharge the patient was able to walk safely with a walker and returned home to independent living.
The second patient had difficulty walking and was at risk of falls after suffering from a stroke. He was highly motivated to make a good recovery and toward the end of his rehabilitation was able to perform advanced lateral shuffle and jumping exercises. When he finished rehabilitation his gait and balance were excellent. He was also able to make a return to living at home alone
Here at Meadowview rehabilitation department we love helping patients like OD and Paul regain their strength and independence following injury or illness

Meet our adult Patient of the Month, Keileigh Truesdell. Keileigh was in a serious motor vehicle accident on 11/22/20 and suffered multiple right arm and leg fractures. When she started therapy Keileigh had difficulty bathing, dressing and transferring to different surfaces. Her wrist and hand were very stiff, affecting her ability to use it very much at all. Keileigh has been working hard since the end of November and made amazing progress! She is now able to completely dress herself (including buttons!), brush her own hair, bathe , drive and make transfers easily. She can also touch her thumb to her pinky now (trust me it’s a big deal 😉). She is a senior this year and has been able to manage school and multiple rehab sessions weekly, while maintaining a positive attitude. We are very proud of the progress Keileigh has made and all the work she has put in to her rehab! Thankyou for all of your hard work Keileigh and letting us share your story!

What is Physical Therapy? Whatever it takes to help you meet your goals. Patrick Hubbard suffered a stroke last year which left him very weak on the left side. When he started PT at MRMC he was dragging the left leg and very unsteady. Patrick wants to get back to driving a tractor trailer and needs to be able to be able to climb and balance on narrow running boards while securing equipment. Rehabilitation has been focused on strength and balance training. He has worked hard, made incredible progress and is on track for a successful return to work. Patrick is now a friend of mine and we have hiked together several times

Patient Of The Month. Duane Dixon, known as Gib to most, has been a patient at Meadowview Rehabilitation since October 2020. He was recovering from three back surgeries in one month and had suffered complications from an infection. At the time he was experiencing severe back pain radiating down both legs and had difficulty standing for longer than 2 minutes with a walker. Rolling over in bed and getting in and out of a vehicle caused excruciating pain. He was also depressed due to his limitations and inability to care for himself. Since October Gib has been working extremely hard on improving his strength, endurance and mobility with Sara Sticklen, DPT. He can now walk without an assistive device, drive himself, climb stairs and get up from a chair while holding weights. He is in much better spirits and ready to strive for more. We are so proud of the work he puts into every session. Congratulations on your accomplishments so far and thankyou for giving us permission to share your story Gib!

Whatever it takes. Patrick Hubbard is a patient and now friend of mine. He had a stroke in May of this year and his world was turned upside down. Prior to that he was driving 100 foot rigs transporting 100,000+ tons of road surfacing equipment. He loved to cycle and biked 1500 miles in 2019. After a Rehab stay at Cardinal Hill he started Outpatient PT at Meadowview about 5 weeks ago. At that time he was still quite weak and had difficulty lifting his left leg while walking. Patrick has been fiercely focused on recovering his strength, returning to work... and getting back on his bike. I became aware that he had started riding route 8 with Ronnie (another patient of mine who was recovering from a 2nd knee replacement). I LOVED this and suggested that we 3 go for a workout hike at Cummins Nature Reserve. Ronnie didn't think he was ready, but Patrick jumped right on it. Our 2 mile hike included the Salamander trail which involved a steep sustained climb. Patrick did great and is as tough as nails. I take pieces of people that I admire.... he is on that list. His goal is to ride 40 miles there and back to Meldahl Dam with me. Im ready when he is. The patients mentioned in this post have signed releases giving permission to tell their stories.

COVID-19 UPDATE

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that per Governor Beshear, all Kentucky outpatient rehabilitation clinics have to close. We are currently in the process of reaching out to those of you who are already scheduled for an upcoming appointment. We do not know how long this will last, but as soon as we are allowed, we will open our doors again! During this time, we are working on setting up Telehealth. This would allow us to work with our patients through a video call on the computer, we are working on obtaining phone numbers and email addresses for all of our patients incase we get cleared for Telehealth.
Please share this post with friends and family and know we are all in this together! Everyone take care and stay healthy! We hope to see you soon!

Critical brain development occurs in the first three years of life. If children are not reaching developmental milestones, pediatricians and other healthcare professionals can help caregivers determine if there are delays. It is imperative that children are provided the necessary attention through Early Intervention (EI) services. OTs can help with children who have developmental delays. Babies and toddlers can have difficulty with the following: poor endurance, weak muscle tone (e.g., for sitting up, rolling over), delayed grasp, decreased eye-hand coordination, decreased sensory skills (e.g., hyper/hyposensitivity to stimulus in the environment), and delays in cognition. We would love to help you with the earliest possible intervention for your child. Call us today at (606) 759-9403.

f you slouch at your desk all day, you might be feeling the effects it has on your neck and back muscles. This can pose long term damage to already sensitized muscles and soft tissues. This strain may increase tension in the muscles, which may in turn cause pain.
