I constantly reference this scene! It’s so easy to fixate on those pesky spots—we’ve all been there. For me, it’s a few stubborn hairs that like to hide under my chin. I can’t always see them, but I can definitely feel them, so I completely understand the urge to constantly check or touch the areas that bother us.

I’ll sometimes joke that we may need to send you home wearing mittens, but in all seriousness, it’s important to be mindful of how often we touch these areas. Repeated picking, squeezing, or feeling active breakouts can create additional irritation, increase inflammation, and potentially prolong the healing process.

As tempting as it may be, keeping your hands off those spots is one of the best things you can do to support healthy, happy skin—and help those blemishes heal more efficiently.

On the fence about SPF? ☀️

The ongoing debate surrounding sunscreen — its importance versus its potential risks — made me want to dive deeper into the research myself. With so much misinformation online, it’s easy to question what’s factual and what’s fear-based marketing or trends.

I encourage everyone to take the time to educate themselves and review research from sources like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

What we do know:
• UV damage accumulates over a lifetime
• Daily sunscreen use has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers
• The FDA has never stated that people should stop using sunscreen — only that additional research is ongoing for certain chemical sunscreen filters

Dermatologists and major health organizations continue to state that the known risks of UV exposure far outweigh any currently proven risks associated with approved sunscreen ingredients.

For those concerned about absorption, mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are generally considered the least absorbed UV filters and are recognized by the FDA as safe and effective.
