The Hill House Edit

There are two kinds of people… the ones who understand that you HAVE to pull over when you see an antique store, thrift shop or estate sale sign—and the ones who ask, “Do we really need to stop?”

Bonus points if you check Facebook Marketplace everywhere you go.

Why is putting a nail through wallpaper so nerve-racking?! 😂 I stood there with these two little pictures for entirely too long before I finally committed.

I love adding art and collected pieces to our home, but making that first little hole in wallpaper I love? That takes courage. Please tell me I’m not alone in this.

Sometimes I forget just how much this house has changed until I look back at where we started.

We didn’t come in wanting to erase everything or make it look like every other house we were seeing. We wanted to take the good bones that were already here and slowly make them feel like us.

Wallpaper, color-drenched rooms, millwork, vintage finds, reupholstered furniture and plenty of layers later…each room has started telling its own story.

And we’re definitely not finished. I’m not sure a collected home ever really is.

Some of my favorite things in this house were never on a trend list.

They were found at estate sales, brought home from Facebook Marketplace, passed down, reupholstered, painted, wallpapered or simply chosen because I loved them.

I think we’ve gotten so used to being shown what our homes are “supposed” to look like that it’s easy to forget the best ones are deeply personal.

I’d rather spend years collecting a home that tells our story than constantly replace things trying to keep up.

Buy what you love. Keep what means something. Let your home become yours over time.

I don’t want these walls decorated. I want them collected.

We’re creating a library and bar in our 1968 home, and now comes the part I’ve been waiting for—slowly covering these walls with artwork found at estate sales, antique shops and vintage markets.

This original estate sale find is the first piece up, and it feels like the perfect place to start. I want the room to eventually feel as though every piece has a story and the collection has grown here for decades.

We have a lot of wall left, so come hunting with me. This is going to be fun.

I spent years driving past this house, dreaming about what it would feel like to call it home. Now my daughter is home visiting, and we get to sit on this front porch with her pup, a glass of w**e and nowhere we need to be.

Maybe the dream was never just the house. Maybe it was getting to have moments like this in it.

Spoonflower Wall Quest

I wanted the custom look. I just didn’t want to pay custom-furniture prices.

So I stopped looking at the ugly fabric and started looking at the bones. A Facebook Marketplace or estate sale find + the right fabric + a good upholsterer can become something completely your own.

Funny enough, those are usually the pieces everyone asks me about.
