I will never forget. 25 years later and I remember that morning like it was yesterday. I’ve told my 9/11 story before, but this year I keep thinking about one part of it in particular.

Cortlandt St was my subway station for school, directly underneath the Twin Towers. I took the train from there every morning, and on September 11th, I should have been there and I would’ve been there but.. the night before, I went to see Michael Jackson at MSG with Lee and my mom. It was the most incredible night of my life. I remember being SO excited to get to school the next morning because I couldn’t wait to tell all my friends I had seen Michael Jackson live and in person!! Instead, the concert ended late, I got home way past my bedtime and I overslept.

For 25 years I’ve believed that Michael Jackson saved my life that morning. Maybe that’s also why I’ve always felt like he was one of my “soulmates.” 🤍

What happened next changed all of us. I was young, but I remember everything that came after. I remember the change in my parents. I remember the change in New York. I remember how scared everyone was, but I also remember how we came together. That part has stayed with me just as much.

I still dream about the old Cortlandt St station. I still get chills looking at these pictures. And 25 years later, my heart is still with every person we lost, their families, and the first responders who gave everything that day.

“New York strong” isn’t just something we say. I watched this city live it. 25 years later, we still do. And we will never forget. 🇺🇸🗽🤍
