Answering some of the most common questions and myths about white spots on nails 👇🏻

1️⃣ White spots are not chemical burns.

In most cases, they are areas of damage within the dorsal layer of the nail plate caused by various factors. What you’re seeing is actually lifted nail layers, not a burn.

2️⃣ There are two ways to manage damaged nails.

You can either leave the nails bare and allow the damaged area to grow out naturally, or continue wearing overlays using properly selected materials and the correct technique, with regular maintenance every 2.5–3 weeks.

3️⃣ Can damaged nails be worn long?

Yes. But even healthy long nails require more frequent maintenance—let alone damaged ones.

This is where successful results depend on collaboration between the nail tech and the client.

4️⃣ The right products matter.

And I’m not just talking about the base coat.

The correct bit abrasive, proper removal technique, suitable gel system, and appropriate base all play a role in preventing further damage and supporting healthy regrowth.

5️⃣ Pay attention to your lamp.

If you’re using a standard SUN lamp, it should ideally be replaced every six months. Even better, invest in a professional-quality lamp designed for salon use.

White spots are not a nail disease.

They’re simply a nail condition that requires the right approach, proper maintenance, and ongoing monitoring 💅

👉🏼 Lenticular overlay gradually tapers toward the free edge, which naturally makes the corners of a square shape appear slightly softer and more rounded.

👉🏼 Arched overlay allows you to create a more defined structure and a sharper, more geometric free edge.

Neither is right or wrong, it’s all about the look you’re after 😃

Typically, a lenticular overlay doesn’t involve restoring sidewalls or correcting the architecture if the natural nail is distorted. As a result, the square shape may not be perfectly crisp, and the length is usually short to medium.

With hard gel strengthening, however, the architecture can be corrected and the sidewalls restored. This allows you to create a cleaner, more precise square shape at almost any length while maintaining strength and balance.
