Ran into this guy at MJ The Musical… who plays “Marvin Thomas” on
09/09/2022
• “Death of a Salesman” on Broadway
• Actor:
One of the NICEST actors I’ve worked with so far. He’s funny, great conversationalist, doesn’t hide his emotions…just a nice guy.
On this day I wasn’t the one who gave him a k*t, it was one of my barbers, .
I’m so FORTUNATE and GRATEFUL for all the opportunities that come my way and for being able to share them with my barbers. Bit by bit as my reputation builds I hope to get more and more barbers working behind the scenes in the tv, film and theater industry. We Are Needed…these actors should not have to get (proper) cuts outside the theater while their counterparts are being groomed right in the theater. **🫤Also, those outside barbers are not getting the compensation they should be getting for doing “show k*tz”.
Small changes are happening though. I will say this…in order for these changes to happen faster some barbers already in the industry Must grow in their ways and those of you looking to get in the industry should practice the following things from now on…Be On Time (Biggest complaint I hear…in this industry you Can Not have the terrible shop-barber reputation of always being late), Be Reliable, Be Consistent with the (good) quality of your work, Be Flexible (times change a lot in this industry and when you’re as flexible as possible trust me, it’s seen, appreciated, gets you more work and gets us seen as essential)

On the set of “Brass Tactics” today. Vibing with Actor …having shop talk in the trailer about more barbers being needed on sets, Black actors not having their grooming needs fully met and how the union is finally trying to remedy this problem.
We had a great session. I gave him a “week old bald fade” k*t (😝That’s what he called it cuz the pic of him I had to match was him a week after his regular barber gave him a k*t).
Great guy! Great convo! I’m thankful for getting to do work I like.
Khane’s Wednesday Vibe: What do you like to do? Find a way to do that thing. Even if you do it for an hour every other day. Even if you feel you are unable to make a living doing it, find a way to make time for it as a hobby. You will feel a bit better about going to the job you don’t like if you think of it as a means to earning money for your hobby or earning money towards starting your own business or earning money for comfortable time off enjoying your passion project. Only you know your situation…whatever it may be, I’m absolutely sure you can find a bit of time during the week to work on something you truly enjoy.
Rid yourself of all excuses and watch the magic that is your life’s purpose happen. - Khane

COVID tried to take my body back in March/April of 2020. After I got out of the hospital, COVID wasn’t finished. I suffered with arthritis in both knees & shoulders for 2 years after. COVID changed my body from young & spry to 85yrs literally. I couldn’t walk up or down stairs without going one at a time like a 3 year old. Running & weight lifting were totally out of the question. I gained plenty of pounds, I didn’t recognize myself at all, I was frustrated, sad, depressed and unavailable emotionally the person trying to love me.
I tried so hard to accept my new body reality, but I just couldn’t. On top of that, the year before I lost all of my long time friends for various reasons, then I lost my relationship due to my deeply damaged heart, my mother passed away, then my older cousin a few days after my birthday this year. I was totally broken to my core.
One day in Jan of this year I found a paper where my mother wrote something beautiful about how she felt about me. My mother had never verbalized loving things to me growing up so this was the Most Emotional moment of my life. I cried like never before and felt my heart piecing back together. I was whole again. I could feel love again. My heart was open again. I no longer felt damaged. I hugged the paper so tight (ultimately hugging myself). I was back from a darkness no one really knew or understood I was in for 3 years.
I’ve since lost 20+ pounds so far…most of which I’m sure was emotional weight. I have new friends. I met my father for the first time and have 6 siblings. I’m happy. I’m healthy and my arthritis is 90% nonexistent. I can lightly jog. I can fully lift weights again. My eating habits are great. I’m looking forward to a loving relationship and have a whole heart to share. I can see the future again.
The love of a parent/guardian is sooo important. Reading my mother’s loving words brought me back to life. They came after she died, but They came when I needed them the most. Don’t have your kids or those in your care wait to know how much you love them, how proud you are of them. Actions are great…my mother was a master at loving Actions…but Words do help. Do both and make sure they match.
Thank you for doing such a great job on this highlight. Thank you for including me in your moment.
Ok so…First y’all turned me into “Uncle Khane” which was a major turning point in realizing I was becoming a mentor…and NOW YA’LL HAVE TURNED ME INTO “AN ELDER IN THE COMMUNITY”!!… 😂 I wasn’t ready yet lol…well I’ll gladly take on the roll. Smh 🤦🏾♂️ 👴🏿
