After six years of an arduous journey, Parenting Through Childhood Cancer, we got the results on Wednesday that Haji no longer needs to be screened for a recurrence of osteosarcoma. I can finally breathe more easily, the last page of that chapter in our life is now complete.

Now I'm really ready to offer the Toolshed Of My Heart to the world! Yay for the Next Chapter! Resting now. New classes start next week for adults and kids.

Thanks for all the love and support as we triathaloned the past six years: trekking Childhood Cancer mountain, Sailing the Seas of Childhood Cancer, and Spelunking deep into the caverns of navigating Childhood Cancer protocols. Extra big love to Rosie, Kyle and Haji. What an honor to get to grow with you in this family and community.

We’re excited to share what’s happening in Russell’s Poetry Grove this year during the 2024 Common Ground Country Fair. (Next weekend! 9/20 – 9/22/2024) Please stop in and say hello!

Each day Russell’s Poetry Grove provides an oasis of calm amidst the joyful hubbub of the Fairgrounds. There are books of poetry to read and ponder; it's also a great place to catch your breath and listen. *Stop in for a quiet respite between events (see below). Volunteers tend the space if you have any questions.

What does your child need to recharge after a long day at school? Perhaps a space where they can rest and move, play and eat a healthy snack. A place where they can create in community and enjoy conversation and connection?

Not a moment too soon. My cat and I are having allergic reactions to the chemicals in cleaning supplies and detergents. So many people don’t realize the impact of their laundry detergents and air fresheners. I want to request that my neighbors put filters on their dryer vents, but have been afraid to even ask. People can’t imagine what it’s like to be one of the planet’s highly sensitive ‘canaries.’

Did you know, there are nerve-deadening chemicals in those products? So after a while of using them many people lose their capacity to smell the way nature intended us to. For some reason, my sense of smell is over-active. (Has been since pregnancy almost 25 years ago.)

Now I have chronic congestion and my nose bleeds when I’m exposed to these chemicals. I spend the summer with air purifiers running and shutting my windows whenever neighbors do laundry. (Often late at night. My bedroom fills with the gases.) It’s so sad. We don’t need to live like this dear ones. Our consumptive habits cause so much unnecessary harm. We have options. ‘Living better through chemistry’ was a lie, propaganda that lined the pockets of a few, and caused all of us harm. There’s only one earth. (At least in this realm of the multi-verse.)

California bill would ban toxic chemicals from air fresheners On April 23, lawmakers in the California Assembly’s Environmental Safety and Toxics Materials Committee approved a new bill to ban toxic chemicals from air care products like air fresheners and scented candles.
