time, this community has endured disasters; it was burned during the American Revolution, and the flood of 1955 wiped out much of the Wall Street area as well as several bridges on the Norwalk River. Norwalk shares vintage images from the mid-1800s through the 1960s, highlighting memorable sites such as Old MacDonald’s Farm and the Melton Automobile Museum. The revitalization of Norwalk’s downtown areas proves it is possible to respect the past and those that came before through the renewal of historical architecture. Author Bio: Lisa Wilson Grant, is a native of Norwalk. Her interest in local history started with a fascination about the buildings of the former amusement park Roton Point, which is now a local beach and two clubs. Recently discovering a genealogical connection to this area through direct descent from Andrew Ward, an English governor of Connecticut who signed a treaty establishing a portion of the Norwalk border, furthered her interest in local history. Grant co-authored Postcard History Series “Roton Point” with the Roton Point History Committee. She has a publishing and book production background. Grant is a Commissioner in the Norwalk Historical Commission, an active volunteer and board member for the Rowayton Historical Society and a docent for the Norwalk Arts Commission Works Progress Administration (WPA) Murals at Norwalk City Hall. She also serves as Regent of the Good Wife’s River Chapter Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) in Darien and Associate Member of the Norwalk-Village Green Chapter in Norwalk. She is restoring a 1901 Nathan Hale Memorial Fountain as a DAR project. When not doing genealogical or historical research, Grant enjoys travelling and photography - she is an exhibiting member of the Rowayton Arts Center. She also draws landscape design plans for her family business, Minuteman Land Services, Inc. She hopes that this work will bring back fond memories for people of all ages, and has included photographs of places she remembers as a child which have not been included in other area histories.
