I’m in an industry where you can get real down on yourself for not doing or being what everyone else is. I am not that barber who throws myself into it because I believe life needs balance to be your best self. So when I feel like I’m not doing as well as everyone else I just try to remember I’m doing as good as I need to be doing for what I can do right now. Plus I don’t want to be doing what everyone else does, I just want to do what I love and what makes me happy. I’m just thankful to have full books every week.

It’s been a whole year owning the shop. To be honest it’s probably been more downs than ups. But it’s only year ☝️ I have a lot more to learn and know I can make things amazing in time. I have learned a lot about me this year. Thank you to everyone who has been around for the ride 🤘.

What’s left of my heart is still made of gold.

I remember a shop I worked at where I was made to feel like I was less than anyone else there. I didn’t have the look, the feel or the skills they wanted their shop to have or showcase. Funny thing is I had the skills and the personality for this career, they just made it a goal to make everyone like them. The reason I got into this career exactly is because I would get to be my own person. I could dress and act and show up when and how I wanted to. That was a rude awakening realizing I had to start at the bottom… I was told I couldn’t work around my child’s schedule, I was a slave to my career, but in the same breath told “we just cut hair”.
Being a slave hasn’t been a bad thing for me, it’s built me to this point where I own my own business. Something I never really thought I would do, but I’m here doing it. And now for all those people who didn’t or still don’t believe in me. I just want to say thank you, thank you for teaching me to be resilient to the world around me. Thank you for showing me the cruel in the world and showing me who I don’t want to be.
I have learned a lot of lessons from people who couldn’t learn their own and as much as they may be a villain in my story I will always cherish what I learned from them. And I’ll keep on going because the only people who fail are the ones who give up. -
