Mr Rex is feeling the same as my current clients.
I have 12 days left at Steamboat Health and Wellness!
A better sweet, as I leave the first clinic I started my career in, and have met to many amazing clients that it is hard to leave. But, Chehalis Medical Massage and Acupuncture is waiting, and I know with this path my education and experience will continue to grow!
At Steamboat Health and Wellness I am no longer accepting new clients, but at Chehalis Medical Massage and Acupuncture I am! My books there are already being filled, so don’t wait, otherwise you may be waiting a while!
I hope to see some of my regulars there and meet new clients!
🥂to a new adventure

Communication is important - part 5
Let’s talk about pressure for a second.
While it is extremely important to communicate to your massage therapist on how much pressure you need, there is one common misconception that pain equals relief.
Pain doesn’t always equal relief.
When us massage therapists are adding pressure sometimes the muscle wants to jump away, which there are many reasons as to why. What I have noticed in my year of experience is that the muscles themselves sometimes need a lighter touch before the added pressure begins, as sometimes our nervous system reacts and wants to close off the muscle and doesn’t want that added pressure. If the muscles “close off” the added pressure is pointless, as I can’t communicate with the muscles themselves until they, the muscles feel safe.
Talk to your massage therapist during your treatment sessions to provide feedback back which will help you on your healing journey.

Communication is important - part 4
Let’s talk about heat in the massage room.
We all experience heat differently and that’s why it is important to talk about!
Heat can be beneficial for helping muscles and also for our comfort levels.
Now ALMOST all massage tables will have a heating pad under the sheets for your comfort and to help relax those aching muscles, but, every heating pad is designed differently and that’s why it is important to talk about it.
Some heating pads have a heat sensor, some heating pads have different settings, some adjust by the actual degree while others have a low, medium and high setting. So why is it important to communicate to your massage therapist on the heat? Some massage therapists have to jump around to different rooms and each room may have a different heating pad, or the heating pad may actually be broken, or the cord may have accidentally been unplugged.
We massage therapists are here for you, we want you to be comfortable, we don’t want you cold and we don’t want you hot, we want you to be able to relax comfortably for the hour or longer session you have!
We massage therapists also typically stay in the same room, so we are accustomed to the temperature, but maybe you are coming from a cold office or even a hot environment and might not even want the heat. So let us know before, and during your session how the warmth is doing so we can adjust it to your comfortably
Communication is important part 3
Let’s talk about oils and lotions.
Everyone has different skin and their skin responds differently. Since becoming a massage therapist I have found that some people have more sensitive skin than others and require more oil, and it is perfectly okay to ask for more!
Many massage therapist have different types of oils as well and to help you feel the most comfortable, don’t be afraid to ask, and or switch it up until you find that oil/lotion you like!

I think Professor Snape would be proud of me and what I did on the weekend.
For some time now, I have wanted to create my own oils, so I did just that!
I will be introducing my Fire and Ice oils starting to today!
My Fire oil as a wonderful Ayurvedic base with arnica, ginger, cedar, and CBD. All of these are to help create a warm, grounding feel for your massage which will help those sore, aching muscles.
My Ice oil has the same Ayurvedic base but with peppermint, magnesium, and CBD. These oils were created to give more of a cooling type of massage which still help the muscles relax and helps those aches and pains caused by our muscles.
My wonderful boyfriend got to test these out this weekend and his review was that both oils were great, and smell wonderful, but he thinks that for summer time, the Ice oil people will love on the hot days!
Test these oils out for yourself on your next appointment, and sink into relaxation.

Yesterday was my Friday and I celebrated that with getting an amazing hour long massage with .bodywork AKA Chloe at Steamboat Health and Wellness, and then headed over to .aesthetic.beautycare for my first ever facial and scalp treatment for 80 minutes.
It was a much needed relaxing day after work, and I highly recommend, if anyone is needing a pampering day, a massage and then a scalp/fascial treatment just is the perfect recipe for that relaxing/pampering day.

Communication is important- part two
Let’s talk about bolsters.
Bolsters are designed to help alleviate pressure on the low back, as it helps with alignment within our body’s structure.
Almost every massage place will have a bolster, and or a few to be able to choose from.
Here at Steamboat Health and Wellness we have hydraulic tables to be able to rise up your legs into the position that is most comfortable for you, and we also have a bolster for you to choose instead as well!
By communicating with your massage therapist you can have them adjust your table or switch the bolster (if they have multiple bolsters to choose from) to help you feel even more relaxed.

Why communication is important - part 1
One of our goals as a massage therapist is to help you relax! One way to help you relax is finding that sweet spot on the face cradle! Everyone is different, but we massage therapists tend to leave it in one position, because that’s the common “neutral”. But, that’s also not comfortable for everyone!
So next time you are getting a massage and you feel some pressure on your upper back, or maybe neck, ask your massage therapist if they can adult the face cradle for you!

As someone who could be considered a “jack of all trades” I understand the back aches, the sore legs, the tired hands, and the overall exhaustion we experience on the day to day.
I have worked in the forest removing invasive species, creating new habitat for new forest growth.
I have worked as a landscaper, digging into soil that felt like concrete to plant thousands of plants that may or may not make it.
I’ve world as a farmer, feeding animals, cleaning pens, doctoring the sick, and welcoming the new babies into this life.
I have worked as a horse trainer and riding instructor, where I have worked with wild horses to the gentleness of the giants, I have started and given horses a new start.
I have even worked in a warehouse, where aches and pains meant nothing to the higher ups, and had to put my head down and push through 10 hour plus shifts if the work place called for it.
But.
I have also felt the aches and pains of being stationary.
I have worked as a wrapper in a meat processing facility where I stood for hours on end on concrete.
I have worked as a receptionist in a dental office where I barely moved out of my uncomfortable chair while my knees were aching
I worked as a receptionist/kennel tech for a veterinarian where I stood almost all day checking in clients and helping when needed.
I have worked so many places and understand the aches and pains my clients come to see me about.
Not every ache or pain is the same for everyone, and that’s where communication comes into play when you come in for your massage session. Explain where you believe it’s coming from, what actions hurt the most, if the pressure is too much or too light…communication is important in massage therapy
