Life changes lead to Good Vibes for Palm Coast business owner

Stepping inside Good Vibes in the St. Joe Plaza in Palm Coast, the first thing you see is a big ticket on the wall. Look closely and you may notice the numbers 10072017.

That’s the date Michael Granam, owner of Good Vibes Nutrition of Palm Coast, received his ticket to a new lease on life.

With a loving wife and two sons, Granam, who weighed 350 pounds and was being plagued by night terrors, knew he had to change something.

It was while working with his brother Mark Granam, owner of Mobile Mark, a mobile vehicle maintenance service, that Mike Granam met Zack Shapiro, owner of The Spot Nutrition of Palm Coast, during an Entrepreneur Night in 2017.

With Shapiro as a coach and Herbalife distributor, the duo embarked on a life-changing mission. Recalibrating not only his eating habits, but his mindset, Granam says he never thought about giving up.

“I kept picturing that if I don’t do something in the next 10 years I’m going to be dead,” said Granam. “Emotionally, that first six months that I was driven to lose my 100 pounds, that’s what I focused on.”

So strong was his belief in the nutrition program he was using and the positive encouragement he received, he became a Herbalife distributor after people reached out to learn more about his journey.

Helping others has kept him on track, leading to him following his own dream of opening a nutrition club.

Granam’s story has inspired many people across the community who, in turn, inspire others. One of them is Chris Murphy, owner of Flagler Bounce.

Murphy’s wake-up call came when he was 38. He visited the hospital for an infection and off-the-cuff mentioned what he thought were unrelated symptoms. Coming in at 435 pounds, the father of three knew something was going on, and doctors confirmed a diabetes diagnosis so severe he wound up in the hospital for two weeks. A surgeon bluntly told him to change his lifestyle or he would die.

Murphy had followed Granam’s personal transformation on social media and in March 2019 took steps to change his own life, enlisting Granam as a coach.

Today, at age 40, he’s down to 265 pounds and is incorporating a strength training and muscle-building regiment into his day. He says it’s not just the physical aspect of the nutrition club, it’s the pure, positive energy that helps him thrive.

Sharing a similar story, Teresa Williams, says she was inspired after her mother died in April 2018. As a caregiver to her father and two sons, it was easy to hit the drive-thru for fast food, and it took its toll.

Teaming up with Granam and Murphy in August 2018, she said their positive energy has been life-changing for her.

“I was devastated when I lost my mother,” said Williams. “I can’t say enough good things about Coach Mike. Once I got on the program, and with the supportive community at The Spot, my whole mindset changed. It’s all about getting that positive energy.”

Spawning the new nutrition club, the nutrition brokerage, isn’t seen as competition by Shapiro, Granam’s mentor and coach, but as an expansion of opportunity to reach others.

“It’s awesome. It’s just following the mission of our purpose to impact 10,000 lives in this community,” said Shapiro.

A “soft opening” for Good Vibes is set for Monday, March 9. Granam says the location is perfect for those leaving the gym or throughout their work day to stop in and pick up one their favorite shakes from a menu of more than 30 flavors, or nearly a dozen power teas.

A schedule of free fit camps, yoga and other activities are in the works over the next few months, he said.
