Skin Sense 671
I make all natural, detergent free soaps and facial sprays. My soaps and sprays include ingredients that grow freely back home.
Growing up on Guam, I later realized the healthy benefits of the fruit and plants that are indigenous to Guam.

I wanted to talk about some of the additives that I use in my products.
* Goat Milk - Contains lactic and fatty acids that help repair and protect the skin barrier. It's a gentle exfoliator and significantly helps to soften skin.
* Honey - Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This means it's great for cleaning pores and can be used to control the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It's also great for removing excess oil from the skin.
* Aloe Vera Gel - It helps fade dark spots. It's naturally moisturizing and it can help in the treatment of acne. It can also help soothe psoriasis and eczema.
* Vitamin E - This is a workhorse of a vitamin for your skin. It helps with anti-aging and can repair UV damage to the skin.
* Colloidal Oatmeal - It's used to soften and soothe the skin. Especially for those that have skin conditions like eczema or suffer from acne flare ups.
And there you have it. Although this isn't the full list of which additives I use; every single product has amazing skin benefits and they don't contain anything harmful or bad for the environment.
If anyone has any questions about my products, I'll be happy to answer them.

Why Be Detergent Free?
There is a world of difference between factory manufactured cleansers and detergent free soap. People who suffer from skin conditions like Rosacea and eczema could tell you this.
So why do I call the factory manufactured stuff cleansers and not soap? The simple answer is this. True soap is made from 2 simple ingredients. Lye and Oil (usually vegetable). What factory manufacturers do is scoop out the natural glycerin in soap and replace it with detergent.
Why the heck would they do that?
Well, natural glycerin is much more valuable as a skin treatment than simple soap is and since detergent is a cheaper cleansing agent, they went ahead and used it as a replacement.
Has your skin ever felt tight and itchy after a shower even when using a moisturizing cleanser? That would be the detergent. Sure, you get these gorgeous, frothy, creamy bubbles, but ultimately it's your skin that pays the price. Detergent is known to dry the top layer of your skin and could cause damage to the barrier that protects you.
So I ask you this...
You use laundry detergent to clean your clothes. But would you wash all of your sensitive body parts with Tide or Gain? Leave your answer in the comments.

Let’s Talk Soap - 1
Did you know that according to ancient Roman legend, soap was named after Mount Sapo (an ancient site for animal sacrifices). It is said that after a sacrifice rain would wash animal fat and ash that collected under the altars down to the banks of the Tiber River. Women who washed clothes in certain parts of the river discovered that their clothes would wash much cleaner than in other parts of the river.
Doesn’t that sound like a great beginning to the discovery of soap?
In actuality, the first written record of soap is credited to the ancient Babylonians around 2800 B.C. These peoples found that boiling animal fat with wood ashes and water produced a substance that would wash away dirt and grime from their clothes and bodies.
That’s it for our first segment of “Let’s Talk Soap”. Keep an eye out for the next segment where I’ll be writing about how today’s soap is made.
Your skin is the largest organ on your body. It makes sense to care for it as you would everything else.
After doing extensive research and using several "test" batches on myself, my family and a few volunteers, I've found that getting back to basics works! By basics, I mean soap recipes prior to World War I. (but that's another post.)
I've also done a lot of research on the plants and flowers that grow in abundance on Guam and I wish I could list all of the benefits that I've found here.
Needless to say, Skin Sense 671 is committed to giving our customers all natural products with no harsh chemicals. We hope that our customers enjoy the fresh island scents that we imbue in all of our products.
And trust me, your skin will thank you for them!
