TO BIGOTRY NO SANCTION
At this point in my calligraphy journey, I believe this to be the most important piece I have created so far.
Here’s my Artist Statement:

This is an excerpt from a letter George Washington wrote back in 1790- and when I first stumbled upon it at the Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island, I was deeply moved by his plea that “everyone shall sit in safety under his own vine and figtree, and there shall be none to make him afraid “.

I just HAD to create an artistic piece after reading this and letting its message sink deeply in my heart and soul.

After many hours of contemplation, I decided to pen the letter excerpt in the Copperplate Style, which was widely used back in those days. I wanted to further bring home the message with Ben Shahn letters (he was an advocate for social justice), emphasizing the theme that we still strive for today. The feather is an authentic red-tail hawk feather, and the colors used are meant to convey a blend of both distant and current times.
In creating this artwork, it is my sincere hope that we can still be stirred by these words written so long ago.

This weekend!!! Log House Festival at Community Arts Festival in Johnstown- this is a GREAT festival!
Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1st👏😘😘
I will be there with lots of hand lettered calligraphy gift items, and oodles of soaps and lotions-
My dear sister in law will have her fabulous jewelry and my friend Carrie will be there with her amazing gel candles- along with many other artisans!!

I am sooo looking forward to this one! I will be in this Fine Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday in Boiling Springs Pa- near Carlisle Pa- a beautiful area- and this show has been a tradition in the area for years!
