MacKenzie Scott has made a significant $38 million donation to Spelman College in Atlanta, supporting scholarships, student access, and technology upgrades. This gift is part of her ongoing commitment to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Over the past month, Scott has donated around $387 million to eight HBCUs, furthering her mission to promote education and equity. Her philanthropy continues to make a powerful impact, with billions of dollars dedicated to education, equality, and community empowerment since she began giving away her wealth.

Her mentor in college was Toni Morrison a Howard University (HBCU) Alum. Jeff Bezos hired Scott at the hedge fund where he worked after receiving a recommendation from Morrison. Shortly thereafter, the pair married and Scott helped Bezos launch Amazon.

Scott earned attended Princeton University, where she studied creative writing under Toni Morrison in the early 1990s. The literary legend served as her thesis adviser and mentor. Morrison, who graduated from Howard University in 1953, was the first Black woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
