This one has been all about integrating the old with the new to create long-lasting functionality and ease of access. The sunroom addition was built above the existing kitchen, both of which are now served by a new elevator. We also made several other interior upgrades, including the primary and guest bathrooms and the laundry room.
All of the above needed to seamlessly blend with the home’s pre-existing volume, and we’re pretty happy with how it's turned out (so far!). We reproduced trim work to match the original exterior details on the home and made specific design choices that compliment rather than detract or compete with the existing aesthetic (such as EIFS stucco and cedar shingles). Shout out to Eric Krabill, Justin George, and team for this beautiful work!

Shelves with retro metal edge banding and window seats that double as storage lend a playful, vintage aesthetic to this modern kitchen. We love the upscale lazy susan, too. Nice work, Steven and team!✨

A few unexpected pops of color around EngineHouse recently, including volunteer irises, Nick Gilson working on some very cheerful powder-coated signage for the Carnegie Museum of Art, and the cutest little blue tripod you’ve ever seen.

This reimagined kitchen boasts expanded windows, smooth, durable finishes, and the finest practical details, including white oak floating shelves and a matching drip rail along the farmhouse sink. We sourced custom millwork to match the historic trim for a new cased opening and seamlessly reinstalled historic white oak wainscoting in the living room (second photo).
Just one aspect of a multi-stage renovation, this project (and these wonderful, creative clients) provided us with the opportunity to collaborate in a radical rethinking of the space founded in practical solutions for day-to-day family life.
Our soonest availability for kitchen renovations isn’t until early 2027, so if you’ve been thinking about reaching out, now is the time! Contact us here: https://www.enginehouse.net/contact

These triple layer custom window sashes are just one of many special features of a larger project we're currently working on.
We’re using reclaimed yellow pine primarily sourced from joists from the same house they’ll end up in. When complete, these sashes will hold antique stained glass panels at the foot of a soaking tub in the primary bathroom.
It’s going to be beautiful, and we can’t wait to see the finished product.
Shout out to Justin George and Christian Austin for this fine craftsmanship.

The muted rose of this Highland Park bathroom renovation creates a subtle backdrop for finer details to shine, like the juxtaposition of horizontal and vertical stack patterning in the shower and the highly detailed mosaic floors.

Foundation progress for a new garage. We love an organized job site! Thanks to Cedric and his team for keeping things neat and tidy.
EngineHouse traveled to the Winnepeg area last week to attend Loewen's factory training for service and installation of Loewen products. What an operation! We were so impressed with this company, the fine work they do, and the people who work there. Big thanks to Fenhaus for sponsoring this trip.
Here's a "window" (😜) into our visit, featuring snapshots of all kinds of incredible machinery, plentiful Douglas fir, a beautiful pivot door ( hinges), and a particularly stunning line of copper and bronze clad units with soldered joints. We look forward to collaborating with Loewen and Fenhaus on future projects!

Rejoice! Porch season has arrived again, so here’s a look at this lovely clear vertical grain Douglas fir renovation in Stanton Heights.
Is there anything better than a Pittsburgh porch sit (or swing)? 🍃
(No, no there is not.)
