I love an airshow and the 2026 McMinnville Oregon Airshow gave more than just the thrill of the big boy jets of which I have one more set to finish. But I do love the ooomph you get from smoke!
Nathan Hammond is from Rhinebeck, NY. At 16, he soloed, and by 17, he had earned his pilot’s license. He has over 8,000 flight hours logged in a variety of aircraft.
In 1998, he began his journey into the air show world when he started flying the DeHaviland Chipmunk, now known as GhostWriter. He took over the controls full-time in 2016. Today, he flies both day and night shows.
This 1956 aircraft was designed as a trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force. However, over a two-year period it was modified for aerobatics and skywriting. This overhaul gave the aircraft a speed of 150 mph, a range of over 500 miles, and a climb rate of 2,500 feet per minute.

142nd Wing never disappoints!

This has to be my favorite of all the photos from the 2026 McMinnville Oregon Airshow.

This is jet wing v***r which is condensed water caused by a sudden drop in air pressure and temperature over the surface of a wing or at its tips paired with the heavy, high-speed aircraft pulling at the start of a sharp angle. We had the perfect amount of high relative humidity this day to make this image possible.

One day somehow I want to get an entire jet v***r cone (also called a shock collar). It is a temporary, cone-shaped cloud that forms around an aircraft flying at high transonic speeds (usually near Mach 1) in humid air.

It's swooshing through the skies day. I so proclaim. LOL
