Fresh Pickins
https://freshpickinsfarm.com/pages/about Fresh Pickins is a farm and producer of organic personal care products in beautiful coastal Maine. We hope you enjoy!
Adventuring, Cultivating, and Wild Harvesting has inspired our lifestyle and the products you see today.
When your tick prevention keeps them off your skin... but they’re still determined to hitch a ride. 😅
Tick season is officially here.
We spend long days farming along the Maine coast, working in flower fields, gardens, forest edges, and tall grass where ticks are simply part of the landscape. Protecting ourselves from ticks has become part of our daily routine.
Before heading into the field, our team reaches for our Bug & Tick Spray, made right here on our saltwater farm with six organic essential oils including peppermint, rosemary, rose geranium, lemongrass, citronella, and cedarwood.
Over the years, we’ve noticed that far fewer ticks seem to attach when we’re using the spray consistently. On the rare occasions we do find one, they often appear sluggish and disoriented rather than actively moving or looking for a place to latch on.
That said, no single tick prevention method is perfect. We still tuck our pants into our socks, perform regular tick checks, and stay aware while working outdoors.
For us, the best protection comes from combining good habits with products we trust and use every day ourselves.

May was a busy one at Fresh Pickins.
New flower varieties began blooming, tulips filled our harvest buckets, our team crafted over 1,000 bouquets and sent them out into the world, and the farm welcomed a few familiar faces (and a few unexpected ones 🦝).
We were also excited to welcome new team members this month as the season ramped up. From planting and harvesting to bouquet making and farmstand prep, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes, and we’re grateful for everyone who helps make it possible.
Thank you for following along and supporting our saltwater farm in Maine. We’re looking forward to longer days, more flowers, and all that June has in store.
What are you most excited to see from the farm this summer?

"April showers bring May flowers” is an old saying, but around here, May flowers also bring tick season.
Our Bug & Tick Spray has become part of the daily routine on the farm once the grass starts coming in, especially during harvest, planting, and market prep.
Tick-borne illnesses have increased significantly across the Northeast over the last two decades, which is why we wanted to make something we actually feel good about using every day.
Made on our saltwater farm in coastal Maine with thoughtfully chosen ingredients and designed for long days outside.
Available online and at our weekend markets.

After a long winter, spring asks a little more from our bodies again.
Earlier mornings. Dirty hands. More time outside. More movement. More light.
We put together this Spring Reset Kit with a few things we’ve been reaching for ourselves on the farm lately: herbal tea, raw Maine wildflower honey, tulsi tincture, and nourishing body butter for dry spring skin.
Nothing fancy. Just simple daily rituals to help ease back into the season ahead.
You can find the Spring Reset Kit online or at the farmstand and weekend markets this spring.
How we prepare our field beds 🌱
Not every par of flower farming is glamorous, but this is the groundwork that makes a healthy and productive season possible.

A few scenes from around the farm this week 🌷
Tulips and daffodils are filling in strong , the greenhouse is full again, and everything is waking back up after the long winter. Every spring feels a little different, but there’s always that moment where the farm starts to come back to life again. Feels good to have dirty hands and flowers in the truck bed again.
Thanks for being here with us through another season.
Nothing like tulips riding in the back of a farm truck 🌷🛻
Freshly harvested and headed to our Cape Elizabeth farmstand and Saturday farmers markets this weekend in coastal Maine!
Emily and Annie planted these tulips last fall before the farm shut down for winter. Months later, they’re harvesting them by hand 🌷
This weekend, these spring tulips will make their way to the farm stand and farmers markets in coastal Maine.
