Our Story
Blue Ribbon Braiding, owned and operated by Alyssa Shelton, is in its sixth year of business based out of Lexington, Kentucky and serving local dressage, jumpers, and event riders. Alyssa has been in the horse show world primarily as an eventer for about 17 years, teaching herself to braid on whatever horses she could get her hands on. She spent four years on the Intercollegiate Dressage Team for the University of New Hampshire not only as a rider and team member, but as the "designated braider" at home shows. Following her time at UNH, she spent 3 months grooming and riding for international 5-star event rider, Lisa Sabbe, in Belgium where she could take her skills to the next level. Upon returning to the US, she moved to Lexington, KY and dabbled in the thoroughbred industry as a groom where she spent some time pulling manes for broodmares and yearlings as well as for some retired horses at Old Friends Farm in Georgetown, KY. After re-entry into the horse show world on her own horse, Reese (lovingly known as Banana), she realized there was a demand for braiding, clipping, and grooming services in the horse capital of the world and decided to start her own business.
