This young man needed a friend to talk to and waved down Officer Morales. She took the time to talk about such things as his favorite thing to do (ride his bike around the neighborhood) and his favorite thing to do at school (PE). Our Officers want kids to know that we are there to listen.
Great Job Officer Morales!

Wayne County Health Department Receives Notice of Two COVID-19 related Deaths over the Holiday Weekend
Richmond---This morning the Wayne County Health Department was notified of two separate COVID-19 related deaths of Wayne County residents. The first death was a female in her 80’s who passed away on September 6, 2020 at Reid Hospital. The second death was a resident at a long-term care facility in her 90’s who passed away on September 7, 2020. There will be no further information regarding the individuals due to privacy concerns.
Last week was a record-breaking week for cases in Wayne County. For the week ending September 3, 2020, 99 cases were recorded for Wayne County residents.
There are some very easy steps every citizen can take to combat COVID-19. One is to stay home if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19. The symptoms include headache, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, chills, sore throat, runny nose, nausea/vomiting and diarrhea and loss of taste and smell. Please immediately seek care if you are experiencing symptoms such as trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion, inability to wake or stay aware and/or bluish lips or face. The next thing we could all do is to wear a face mask or facial covering when in public spaces, especially indoors or at crowded outdoor events. It is also important to keep a 6-foot physical distance from others. Wearing a facial covering and maintaining the physical distancing can greatly reduce the community spread of COVID-19. We should avoid large gatherings where it is not always possible to keep that physical distance with others. It is possible for people to attend these events without knowing they are sick and spreading the virus. We also need to be practicing good hand hygiene. Our hands should be washed anytime they have been contaminated by a surface that has not been recently cleaned and sanitized, especially prior to eating.
If you have been contacted by a state or local case investigator because you have been identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual, it is important you follow the guidelines and quarantine for the 14 days. If you begin to experience symptoms during your quarantine, you should see a doctor and be tested to see if you have contracted the virus.
This week, the Wayne County Health Department will begin their COVID-19 Community Testing Site. The health department will utilize the same space as the OptumServe testing site for a brief time. The site location is at the former Elder-Beerman building located at 601 E Main Street, Richmond, IN. Please use the south door entrance. The Health Department’s site will be open Monday – Friday 8:00AM to 6:00PM. You can register for an appointment at https://scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov. Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcomed.

The Indiana State Department of Health has a Data Report that is updated daily with the state cases. It also has a county metric tracker that is updated weekly. We encourage everyone to check the website on a regular basis.
