Hello hot rodders and cool car peeps!

As So Cal begins to reopen we will be able to once again get together for an awesome morning of hot rods and cool cars this Sunday! The folks at J & M Speed Center, Riverside Carb & Electric and Sledsville will be joining the fun with a huge parking lot swap meet so for this month there will not be any parking in the speed shop lot, please only park on Motor Circle. There is room for everyone but plan to get there early for the best spots!

Riverside Cars & Coffee Rules For Cool Humans!
Welcome back to Riverside Cars & Coffee! Since most of us have been forced to hunker down for months, we thought this would be a good time for a cool human refresher, just the basics of course...

1. Love the Cars, Respect the Owners

We've created an awesome atmosphere of appreciation and inclusion. We positively welcome all kinds of cars and all walks of car people. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Protect it.

2. Park like a Cool Human.

True. Cool car shows attract a lot of cool cars. Parking can seem scarce sometimes. No worries. There are plenty of spots for all. Cruise around, find a spot, park like a cool human and leave enough space for other cool humans in other cool cars.

3. Cool Humans Get Hot Coffee

Of course we're serving coffee! The key word there is serving. A cool volunteer will man (or woman) the coffee table and personally hand you your own steaming cup. If you bring your own cool coffee mug? No sweat. Take the cup you're served and fill your own mug up to the brim with it, easy peasy!

4. Guard Against the Cooties.

We know. Coronavirus is a drag (and not the cool kind). Since we're not medically qualified to call it bunk, please keep a safe (6 foot) distance from other cool humans. Don't clump up in groups. Spread your coolness o-u-t. And please wear the toughest face mask you can muster.
It's okay to call us overly cautious. We just want to keep our cool humans safe and healthy. With a little caution and cooperation, we hope we'll be eliminating this rule in no time.

5. It's Cool to Be a Rebel

Except when it comes to breaking the Rules for Cool Humans.

Growing up in a melting pot like Los Angeles I never understood racism. I mean why, really??
Maybe I was just naive at the time or simply just a color blind 13 year old (as we all should be) that learned to not only coexist but respect more than one shade of people.

Blacks, Asians, Mexicans (a blanket description for most of Latin America) and even Whites were all just a part of every day life and none posed a problem unless one of them capped on "yo mama" lol
I had friends of ALL shades.

I Skated Hollywood Blvd and Dogtown thru Venice Beach while listening to Suicidal tendencies or KRS-One
Man I had to be cool with everyone. Lol
Yet, I knew I wasn't welcomed in Santa Monica or Beverly Hills (their skate parks sucked anyway! 😂) I loved growing up in L.A
I loved the kooks of all colors rolling thru Venice.
Hollywood was no different really, except that there were more White punks, Black punks and Mexican punks. 🤘🏼 I loved the more simple times in a place where tolerance was a given. We had real problems to worry about and the color of someones skin just wasn't one.
I learned to embrace anyone.
Especially those that didn't put a gun to my head for my shoes.

Sure there were gangs and trouble around just about every corner 🤷🏻‍♂️ can't win em all.
I knew at least I could be straight with a homie and let em know I didn't bang as I passed thru or that my cousin was from the neighborhood.
Can't talk your way outta skin color. We are who we are.

I learned to maneuver thru that concrete jungle and still managed to have love for people of all color.

I also know what it's like to have a cop cook the side of my face on the hood of his squad car just for kicks. To be discriminated against just because. I don't hate Cops.
And though I can empathize with you, I feel you, I know I will ever experience the same injustices dished out to you as Black Americans.

Today, we can only hope that our children and theirs never have to endure these kinds of pains or injustices. My hope is that they would know what it is like to be color blind and embrace ALL.
