🩸What is aspiration❓

🩸To aspirate means to pull back on the plunger of a needle

🩸Why should injectors aspirate❓🤔

Short answer: SAFETY‼️⚠️

🩸Long answer: Pulling back on the plunger of a syringe💉 (dermal filler syringe for the means of this post) before injecting filler product in a fixed position to help minimize the risk of a vascular occlusion (VO). 🚫 If you see a blood flash 🩸while pulling back (like in this picture), that means your needle is in a place you should NOT be injecting into (i.e., vein or artery) and you should NOT inject filler product🚫🙅🏻‍♀️💉

🩸Longer Answer: This picture was taken yesterday 📸I was injecting dermal filler ON BONE… and BAM💥 this bad boy flashed in my syringe while aspirating‼️🩸🙀After years of injecting filler, this was the first time I ever got blood return while injecting ON BONE- which is considered safe. 😯🙀😳

🩸If I had not used safe injecting techniques like checking my needle location (aka aspirating), I could have injected filler into a vessel resulting in a vascular occlusion. 😧 This could’ve led to skin necrosis and much more severe complication such as blindness.😳

🩸Why is this important❓🙌🏼💉

🩸Injectors should always be aspirating for patient’s SAFETY‼️‼️I take every precaution I can while injecting ALL client’s filler including👇

1️⃣Injecting with HA fillers (which can be reversed with Hylenex)

2️⃣Always having a sufficient amount of hylenex available when injecting filler

3️⃣Injecting superficial/deep based on anatomical areas

4️⃣Watching skin color for nonblanchable areas

5️⃣and lastly... ASPIRATING‼️‼️💉💉
