I’m delighted to receive my “Vote Darling” tee from Lingua Franca today! Love 💕 it when fashion and advocacy complement one another.

If you live in the US, please vote like your life depends on it (because this is true for many people who live here), and don’t forget to turn the ballot over to weigh in on the nonpartisan races for judges and school boards.

I’ve always believed that what we wear can make a statement about who we are—and what we care about.

So when Lingua Franca launched its new “In Dolly We Trust” collection, this literacy educator, school board trustee, and unapologetic lover of great clothes was pretty much powerless to resist.

The collection pairs Lingua Franca’s hand-embroidered cashmere with some wonderfully Dolly phrases—“In Dolly we trust,” “What would Dolly do?,” “Workin’ 9 to 5,” and “A cup of ambition.” Even better, 10% of sales from each sweater supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which puts books (over 3,000,000 a month) into the hands of young children.

For me, personal style has never been just about looking good. I love finding pieces that tell a story, start a conversation, and reflect something I value.

Little Sherry had no idea she’d someday trade schoolbooks for school board packets. She certainly didn’t know that her future self would be entrusted with helping make decisions for a public school district much like the one that was shaping her.

Back then, school was simply where I learned, discovered what I was good at, found adults who encouraged me, and began imagining a life much bigger than the one I could see from my elementary-school desk.

Decades later, I understand something little Sherry couldn’t have known: those opportunities don’t just happen. They depend upon talented educators, supportive families, strong communities—and leaders willing to listen carefully, ask hard questions, steward resources responsibly, and keep students at the center of their decisions.

That’s why I’m running to retain my seat on the RCS Board of Education.

And, yes, this is the part where little Sherry and I ask for your help. The most expensive stretch of the campaign is ahead—events, yard signs, advertisements—and bookmarks!
