October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This video is one small piece of a much longer story. I’ve been out for years, but I still remember how easy it was to feel alone, and how hard it could be to explain what was happening.
If you’re in that place now, you can talk to me. You don’t have to prove it’s “bad enough,” explain why you stayed, or know what you want to do next. Just message me and start wherever you are. I’ll listen, talk it through with you, or keep you company while you sort out what you’re feeling. No judgment. No lecture. Just a friend in your corner.
And that line, “I think I’ll be okay if you don’t like me”, took me a while to believe. I’m still practicing. Turns out, I don’t have to win everybody over to be okay. 💜

The most successful people I know are really good at failing. They learn, get back up, and try again.
I can credit the balance beam for much of my grit and determination. I hated that event with a passion. Why would any sane person do a backflip on a four-foot-high, four-inch-wide piece of wood and call it a good idea? The number of times I fell, straddled, banged, and bruised myself on that thing should have earned me hazard pay.
But it taught me how to survive the hard falls in life too.
Yes, it took me seven or eight attempts to leave an abusive relationship before I finally left for good. Other people may have seen those attempts as failures, but they couldn’t see God working behind the scenes. He never gave up on me. Every time I got back up, He was making me mentally and emotionally stronger until I was ready.
Now, as a business owner, I don’t panic when I lose my balance. I’ve learned to adjust my footing and keep moving. Because as long as I don’t give up, I trust I’ll eventually get where God wants me to be.
Life is a lot like trying to catch cheddar Goldfish in your mouth. Sometimes you miss completely and get smacked in the forehead, but sometimes you nail it, and nothing compares to that feeling. 😂
Keep tossing. Keep trying. Keep getting back up.

Fun fact about me:

My plan was to go to cosmetology school to do hair- to pay my way through college- to become a teacher. After doing hair for a few months, I realized that I belong behind the chair. Turns out, 23 years later, I get to be a teacher too. 😀
