✨ Hair Type Sunday | Type 2: Wavy Hair

“Is my hair wavy… or is it just frizzy?”

If you’ve ever asked yourself that, you might have Type 2 hair. 🌊

Type 2 hair generally falls into three categories:

2A — Loose, subtle waves that can be easily weighed down.

2B — More defined S-shaped waves, often becoming more noticeable through the mids and ends.

2C — Stronger, more defined waves that may begin closer to the root and sometimes form loose curls.

But here’s where things get interesting…

Having wavy hair doesn’t automatically mean you need a shelf full of heavy “curly hair” products.

For some Type 2 hair, too much heavy cream, butter or oil can actually weigh down the wave pattern instead of helping it.

And just like we talked about with Type 1, your curl pattern is only one piece of your hair story.

Porosity. Density. Strand thickness. Scalp health. Chemical history. Your routine.

They all matter when we’re figuring out what your hair actually needs.

The goal isn’t to force your hair into a category.

It’s to understand it well enough to work with it. 🤍

Sometimes a haircut is just a haircut.

And sometimes it means so much more. 🤎

When she first sat in my chair in May, she was ready for a big change. We cut off over 12 inches of hair, and during that appointment we talked about how our hair can hold so many memories — different seasons of our lives, different versions of ourselves, and moments we never want to forget.

There was something really beautiful about that haircut.

Not about leaving the past behind or forgetting what came before, but about giving yourself permission to move forward while still carrying those memories with you.

She ended up loving her shorter hair, and when she came back this time, she wanted to keep the length and take her front pieces a little shorter.

Then we decided to see what her natural texture wanted to do…

And look at her. 🥹🤎

All of those curls were waiting underneath.

Different appointment. Different season. Same beautiful head of hair — just continuing to evolve.

Sometimes changing our hair isn’t about becoming someone new.

Sometimes it’s simply about making a little more room for who we’re becoming.

✨ Hair Type Sunday | Type 1: Straight Hair

Let’s start with Type 1 — straight hair.

Straight hair may seem pretty straightforward (see what I did there? 😂), but there’s actually a lot more to understanding it than just “my hair is straight.”

1A — Very straight, typically finer strands with little natural volume
1B — Straight with a little more body and movement
1C — Straight with more texture, often thicker strands and sometimes a slight bend

One thing I really want you to remember throughout this series:

Your hair type is only part of your hair story.

Porosity, density, strand thickness, scalp condition, chemical history and even your daily routine can completely change what your hair needs.

That’s why two people can both have Type 1 hair and LOVE completely different products.

Understanding your hair isn’t about putting it into a box — it’s about learning what it needs so you can work with it instead of constantly fighting it. 🤍

Next Hair Type Sunday: Type 2 — Wavy Hair 🌊

She said calico hair… so we went ALL IN. 🤎🧡✨

Copper, blonde, and rich brunette all living together in one seriously fun transformation.

This one took some patience, a whole lot of intentional placement, and working through previous color — but keeping her hair healthy was always the priority.

And that final blend?! Worth it. 😍

Two sisters. Two completely different textures. Two cuts designed for their hair. ✨

One wanted to keep her beautiful length while adding movement and shape. The other needed layers that would let those curls come alive without sacrificing all that gorgeous fullness.

Because a great haircut isn’t about making every head of hair look the same—it’s about understanding the hair in front of you and giving it what it needs. 🤎

And I have to say… these sisters have some seriously beautiful hair.

Sometimes the goal isn’t to change everything — it’s knowing exactly what to change. ✨

This new guest came in wanting to keep her blonde dimensional while bringing brightness back into the darker areas underneath.

Instead of coloring over the natural depth she already had, I worked with it — strategically placing highlights where they would make the biggest difference and finishing with a soft beige gloss for a beautifully blended, dimensional blonde.

And just to clarify because that finish is doing its thing — no haircut was done during this appointment. It was already so beautiful! 🤍

But my favorite part came the next day, when she messaged me to say her family loved her color AND that her time in my chair made her feel heard and encouraged.

That part means everything to me.

Beautiful hair matters.

She was ready for a BIG change ✂️

She wanted to go short, loved the movement of a butterfly/wolf cut, but didn’t want something she’d have to style every single day.

So instead of following a trend exactly, we created a shape specifically for her hair — taking off the length, adding soft movement and face framing, while keeping enough weight for her thick hair to still be manageable.

For her color, we kept her natural brunette base and brought her lighter pieces up for soft caramel dimension and an easy grow-out.

Shorter. Lighter. Healthier. And still completely her. 🤎

Sometimes your hair just needs to match the version of you that’s ready to come out. 💙

We went from long and dark to bold layers, movement, and flashes of electric blue — and I am OBSESSED with how this one came together.

This was definitely one of those appointments that pushed me creatively, and I loved every minute of it.

Healthy hair still came first. We lifted only what we needed, kept her depth, and let that blue make the statement.

A little alternative. A little unexpected. Completely her.

She wanted to go darker… but not dark. ✨

We had quite a bit of regrowth and blonde through the ends, and the goal wasn’t to completely cover either one. We wanted to bring everything closer together — soften the dark, tone down the blonde, and create a dimensional color that complemented her skin tone while still letting her feel LIGHT.

So we kept brightness around her face, added intentional dimension, and brought the rest into this warm, rich color.

And that shine. 😍

My favorite part of color isn’t just choosing a formula. It’s figuring out where you want to go, what your hair can realistically do, and finding the healthiest way to get there.

She left happy. I left happy. And we already have ideas for the next appointment. ❤️
