Your natural curls are beautiful but fragile. Elastic hair bands can pull and stretch your hair (not to mention the tangles and breaks they cause), so try to avoid getting too tight. On the other hand, it is much better to press and gently define the curls dry using your fingers and a little styling product. This helps not only reduce damage, but also control frizz caused by the brush.

Dyes on curly hair look great, but they certainly require a bit more care. If your colored curls feel particularly dry, give them a dose of care and attention with a deep conditioning mask once a week, as well as an oil treatment for your hair, applied from length to ends to give it intensive nourishment. Your curls will be hydrated, healthy and manageable!

We know curly-haired girls want to show off those soft, well-defined locks without feeling stiff or sticky. The solution? Use a lightweight styling gel, like TRESemmé Flawless Curls Gel with Vitamin B1, which helps you create soft, well-defined curls without leaving harsh residue or drying effects.

Air drying curly hair can result in frizz overload if not done the right way. That's where the diffuser comes in. This accessory that connects to the electric dryer helps reduce frizz and at the same time adds a touch of volume to those curls that run the risk of being softened by the weight of your hair. As with any other heat styling device, we recommend using a heat-protected spray or serum first to minimize the damage that high temperatures cause to your hair. Get ready to show off beautiful curls full of volume and vitality!

Vigorously towel drying your hair can turn wet curls into nightmare frizz, so always gently blow dry when wet. Drain the excess water and press it down little by little with the towel. Don't rub it as friction can result in brittle hair. To avoid mistreating it in the future, get used to combing and brushing wet hair gently since when it gets wet it is when it is at its weakest. It may sound strange, but brushing from the ends up in small sections is much better for your hair and makes it easier to untangle those difficult knots.

Damage — especially heat damage — can also have a major impact on curls. The more you manipulate your hair, the more its structural integrity breaks down. Though heat-styling doesn’t affect the hair follicle itself, once damage is done to a curl, the only way to undo it is by cutting it off.

Over time, curl patterns can become tighter or looser. Hormones, especially during pregnancy, menopause, or puberty, certain medications, and external environmental factors can all play a role in changing the shape of hair follicles which, in turn, can affect curl type and pattern.

While everyone’s curls are different, the overwhelming majority of experts recommend applying styling products to sopping wet curls to avoid frizz and that stiff, sticky feeling that can come from applying products to damp or mostly dried hair.

Curls are more delicate than straight strands due to the shape of the hair fiber. The spiral shapes means the cuticle can be slightly lifted, which makes it more prone to damage, and more likely to leak moisture. Because of this, curls tend to become damaged and dehydrated far more quickly than straight hair.
