do red light masks actually do something? short answer: yes — but let’s be honest about it.

fun fact first → red light wasn’t built for skin. nasa originally developed it in the 80s to grow plants in space. the skin benefits were an accident — scientists noticed their own wounds healing faster under the light. 🌱

here’s the clinical part. red and near-infrared wavelengths reach the cells that build collagen and calm inflammation. over time that can mean firmer, smoother, less reactive skin. the research is real.

but at-home ≠ in-office. your mask could be gentler than the panels we use professionally, so results are slower and subtler. this is a consistency game, not a one-time glow. 3–5x a week, every week, is where it earns its keep.

my take? it’s a worthy add to a routine — never the whole routine. light supports the skin. it doesn’t replace exfoliating and hydrating to get there.
