When I’m short on time and low on energy, this is what fights the fatigue for me:

- Mackerel (or sardines): packed with omega-3s, B12 and vitamin D Fishwife
- Eggs: great source of B2, B5, B12 vitamins, iron, and complete protein, good for sustaining energy
- Black sesame seeds: rich in fiber, antioxidants, iron, calcium and healthy fats
- Sourdough: provides steadier energy due to fermentation Bread Alone Bakery
- Parmesan: a little bit of calcium, protein and a little more B12
- Tomatoes: a good dose of vitamin C to help absorb iron from eggs and fish
- Cucumber: delivers refreshing hydration to the body as dehydration can also cause fatigue

I used to love cooking up elaborate meals for lunch and dinner but that’s hard to commit to these days. Also choosing to romanticize my meals by using dinnerware I’d normally use for special occasions and gosh what a game changer that has been!!! Transforming mundane routines into special moments by making tiny changes is such a crucial muscle to train as a mom 🙂‍↔️

Feeling silly about how much this changed my mood and might delete later…just thought I’d post this with no filter, no fancy effects or audio, no makeup, all the sticky spit up and day-or-two old pjs. It’s been rough this (very long) winter with a colicky baby who also has reflux and has a hard time being anywhere but in his parents arms. It’s so easy to get wound up in the frustration of feeling “trapped” until you just simply put on a song and dance with him, reminding yourself that he will never be this little again and in a few months or years you’ll wish to be right back in this chapter.

I haven’t responded to everyone yet but I also want to say *thank you* to all the incredible women who responded to my stories the other day about feeling exhausted and stuck at this point in motherhood. It’s not lost on me that even while all the other moms in this world are likely going through the same level of exhaustion and overstimulation, that they’re usually the first ones to offer support, wisdom, and love. Even to strangers. Your messages meant a lot more to me than you might think! Excuse me while I cry again 🤧

Life is busier than ever with two little ones now, and I’m more grateful than ever for Kota and Pip. Last year we used ’s Breed + Health Test to learn how to best care for them and it unearthed so much about them (including that Pip is half Great Pyrenees…which makes SO much sense!).

Knowing exactly what they need brings real peace of mind. Kota and Pip have always taken good care of us…and now I can care for them even better.

This time last year I sought after flowers for relief, grasping for any little sign that things would be fine and get better. This year I look to them as an introduction to the exciting things to come. No matter the season of life we’re in, the flowers will blossom, waiting for us to meet them.

I hope anyone who needs to hear that remembers that🪽

Pregnancy has deepened my appreciation for cooking and food the last few months (didn’t even know it was possible tbh)— the sheer beauty in the ways that the earth nourishes us even in repair, the blend of memories and history through myriad ingredients and recipes, the appreciation of and connection to cultures I hope to impart on baby through the simple pleasures of taste and learning to recreate. It’s all made me feel so profoundly grounded and grateful to be exactly where I am and where I will be: to nurture, to be open and spur imagination, and to be hopeful and scared but ready even though not knowing. I hope you have yourself and a loved one a sweet meal today 💛

Memorable things I made for week 23–
- Poké bowl with salmon, white sushi rice, edamame, wakame salad, ginger, dried seaweed, yuzu kosho and sesame seeds with kewpie / sriracha sauce
- Fried egg on rice with soy sauce, and lap cheong (Chinese sausage) and leftover wakame salad
- Spinach and shrimp enchiladas
- Peanut butter cereal 😋
- Moules et frites and salad mix with homemade vinaigrette
- Bacon, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich at home (forever a favorite!)
- Treat yourself vanilla and berry cupcake
- Kale pasta with Parmesan and anchovy breadcrumbs
