Did you know that cell phone use can have an impact on your health? It is near impossible to stop using modern technology, but there are small things you can do to reduce cell phone radiation.

Some things we do in our house include not carrying our phone in our pocket when at home, using wired headphones instead of AirPods, turning it to airplane mode at night, not letting our kids play on our phones and putting the iPad on airplane mode if the kids are using it.

You can’t out train a bad diet. Gyms and jogging didn’t get popular until the 1970’s and since then most people think more exercise is the answer to getting into shape.

Of course exercise is good, but many people could be walking, lifting weights a few times per week and seeing way better results if they understood how to eat to maximize results.

Exercise burns calories and creates cravings which makes people eat more of what they are eating. If that’s not healthy, then they will just be playing tug of war with exercise and diet.

How can we expect kids to be on their best behavior and focus in school and have energy for sports if they aren't eating real, nutritious food?

But if our children go to school with a breakfast of Coke or colored sugar water and Doritos or Flaming Hot chips how can we expect them to focus or pay attention?⁣⁣

When I wanted to encourage healthy eating in my children I realized that it wasn’t as simple as saying “eat your spinach because it is good for you.” I had to get them interested and excited.⁣⁣

There is a ton of excellent research on Time Restricted eating (TRE). Even when eating the unhealthy foods, and the exact same amount of calories in a shorter window metabolic disease and obesity was corrected. Obviously focusing on healthy foods is the key.

We now know our internal organs have circadian clocks as well, and focusing on eating in this cycle can be extremely beneficial for many people. Even stopping eating 2 hours before bedtime and for 2 hours after waking up can be extremely beneficial, when focusing on still eating similar calories throughout the rest of the day.

That doesn’t mean you have to be a happy-go-lucky bucket of sunshine 24/7, but there is a lot of value in trusting your journey, trusting your body, speaking to yourself in a kind voice, and believing in yourself. Trust me when I say that this is a critical piece of the longevity puzzle. ⁣

Pay attention to your thoughts and words. You might be surprised to find out how many of your ruminating thoughts are negative or self-degrading. When I sat down and listed my most common worries, I noticed that I wasn’t speaking to myself in a kind way. Someone told me to talk to myself the way that I would talk to a friend who I loved, and that was game-changing advice. Once I started to do that, I noticed an improvement in my overall joy. Self compassion and grace is key. ⁣

[05/26/21]   Nutrition should not be focused solely on weight loss. Also, just because someone looks good externally doesn't mean they are healthy internally.

If you are working with a health professional who doesn't understand this and the mechanisms of how nutrition correlates with inflammation and internal health it's time to move on.

Nutrition should be focused on getting you healthy internally and reducing inflammation as that's how you truly get healthy. If you create a healthy internal environment then weight loss will be a welcome side effect.

Most people don't mind carrying around an extra 20-30 lbs on a regular basis, but if they get cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis for example their world is going to instantly change.

We need to stop focusing on external weight and start focusing on internal health because that's where all health problems start.

A few factors to consider outside of weight:
1. How's your energy?
2. Do you have major energy swings after meals?
3. Do you get out of breath easily?
4. Are you flexible, can you get up off the ground quickly?
5. How's your sleep, do you get at least 6+ hours per night?
6. What are your hsCRP levels?
7. What are your HbA1c levels?
8. What are your fasting glucose levels?
9. What are your fasting triglyceride levels?
10. What are your Vitamin D-3 levels?

Find a healthcare professional who will work through these questions with you.

Made with cauliflower rice, this was really easy to throw together as we always keep these items in our freezer. (Have you ever frozen lettuce? It works great for shakes!)

RECIPE: (this makes about 2 large shakes)
1 cup spring mix lettuce
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen cauliflower rice
1 c frozen strawberries
Add almond milk or water and blend!

Movement is anti-inflammatory, especially inside joints. Lack of motion increases pain signals inside the joints leading to the feeling of pain.

Chiropractors get motion back into joints that aren't moving and help to break the inflammatory cycle reducing pain and preventing long term joint problems.

Many extremely successful and busy people like Elon Musk do this daily for at least 30 minutes.

Most people spend 3-4 hours or more just staring at their phones each day. Try this instead for 30 minutes. Make sure to do it where you have no distractions.

When you find solutions be bold and take action on implementing them into your life.

Within a few days you will notice you free up a ton of mental space and your stress levels will go down.

Add more leafy greens to your diet! Here is one of my favorite shake recipes:

1 cup spinach or mixed greens
1/3 cup frozen mango
1/4 cup frozen peaches
1/2 banana
1 scoop unflavored whey protein powder
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1/2 cup almond milk (or 1/4 cup canned coconut milk and 1/4 cup water)

Blend and enjoy!
