4 Tips for Working from Home!
1) Start with the same morning routine. No matter when you wake up or how you want to start your day, keep it consistent each day because this will put you in the right mindset to start working once it's completed.
2) Maintain regular hours. Try to work during the same time frame each day.
3) Take breaks! Specifically, take breaks from sitting in front of your computer. It's important that you get up and move around every hour to prevent back, neck or knee pain from sitting too long.
4) Stay positive and don't be hard on yourself! Working from home comes with many challenges but it's important to keep a positive attitude and do the best you can during this time!
What challenges are you having with working from home now? We can help!

WHY TREAT USING A SENSORY MISMATCH FRAMEWORK?
When treating patients with dizziness symptoms, often the cause of this dizziness is due to a Sensory Mismatch. A Sensory Mismatch is when the central nervous system over relies on a particular sense at the wrong time, leading to the illusion of imbalance and dizziness. An example is a feeling of motion you might experience in a fun house at an amusement park or even simply the sensation of movement when a car moves next your when at a stop light. This is an example of a Visual-Vestibular Mismatch (VVM), which is one of five types of Sensory Mismatches. When physical therapists treat patients with dizziness, understanding the Sensory Mismatch is vital. You cannot assume all patients with dizziness have the same Sensory Mismatch, but this is often the case. Most physical therapy groups that treat balance patients challenge patients by only increasing the difficulty of the activity, irrespective of the Sensory Mismatch of their patient. In a sense, they are treating by feel or chance. While this is logical and used with progressive resistance exercises for musculoskeletal pain, it is important to identify the mismatch the patient is presenting with in balance therapy to maximize the dosage and get optimal results. Through the use of BODITRAK Force Mats, FYZICAL has identified five Sensory Mismatches:
• Somatosensory-Vestibular Mismatch (SVM): this is the classic patient shuffling feet and starting the process to need an assistive device in your practice. This is the most common Sensory Mismatch in these patients are surface dependent.
• Somatosensory > Vision-Vestibular Mismatch (SVVM): This is a more complex SVM where the patient needs visual cues along with surface cues to maintain balance. This will be your patient that now needs an assistive device like a SPC or FWW but could get their balance back if we capture quickly in a FYZICAL Balance Program.
• Visual-Vestibular Mismatch (VVM): These tend to be younger patients that are still active but have developed a vestibular weakness leading to an over dependence on vision.
• Visual > Somatosensory Vestibular Mismatch (VSVM): Strangely, this will be the most deconditioned and weak patients in your practice. These patients are so imbalanced, they actually attempt to use visual cues greater than surface to maintain balance, leading to extreme instability and dizziness.
• Vestibular Hypofunction (Vh): This patient is the highest functioning patient in that they are using vision and surface cues appropriately with simple tasks but when their balance requires complex tasks that need vestibular specific information, they struggle and have imbalance and dizziness symptoms.
Each patient Sensory Mismatch has it’s own conceptual and progressive framework for treatment, similar to taking the correct dosage of medication for your patients. As you are aware, underdosage, misdiagnosis, and overdosing the patient can lead to no to negative effects in medication management – the same is for imbalance and dizziness management in physical therapy for balance and dizziness. This is where FYZICAL is unique and is the only physical therapy company in the US that uses this Clinical Treatment Algorithm (CTA) to allow use the best Quality Improvements (QI) of your patients.

Omayia has always been a loyal family friend and patient of ours throughout the years when we were formerly known as Baig Rehab and now known as FYZICAL for any of her physical therapy, rehab and wellness needs. Omayia recently came back to Saginaw for the holidays and we were glad to be given the opportunity to help treat her during her stay so she would be ready to go back to Lebanon feeling stronger and better! She has made great progress since her first visit and it was great being able to catch up with her as well during our therapy sessions. We wish you the best and safe travels back to Lebanon!
