If your leg feels heavy, tired, or tight, there may be more going on than just fatigue.
Leg heaviness can be related to swelling, muscle weakness, circulation, or changes in the way you’re moving.
After an injury or surgery, for example, it’s common to compensate without realizing it, which can put extra stress on other parts of the leg.
Pay attention to when it happens and whether you’re also noticing swelling, stiffness, or changes in your walking.
Those details can help a physical therapist figure out what may be contributing to the problem.
If it keeps happening or starts affecting your daily activities, it’s worth having it evaluated.
Follow Dash Physical Therapy for more practical, evidence-based PT education!
Lymphedema can look different from person to person, and symptoms may develop gradually over time.
Early signs can sometimes be easy to overlook, especially when swelling comes and goes or seems minor at first.
Paying attention to changes in your body and getting the right evaluation can make a difference.
If you’ve noticed swelling, heaviness, tightness, or other changes that don’t seem to be going away, it’s worth getting them checked out.
At Dash Physical Therapy, we provide personalized care to help patients better understand and manage lymphedema.

Jumper’s knee, also called patellar tendinopathy, is an injury to the tendon that connects your kneecap to your shinbone.
It’s usually caused by repeated stress on the tendon, which is why it’s common in people who run, jump, or play sports.
Pain is typically felt just below the kneecap and may be worse with jumping, running, squatting, or using stairs.
The frustrating part is that the pain may improve with rest but come back when you return to your normal activities.
Rest can calm things down, but it doesn’t always address why the tendon is struggling to handle the load.
Think you may be dealing with jumper’s knee?
Contact Dash Physical Therapy to schedule an evaluation and take the next step toward getting back to the activities you enjoy!

A lot of people with knee pain assume the issue is coming directly from the knee itself.
However, that isn’t always the case.
The hips play an important role in controlling how the legs move during walking, climbing stairs, squatting, and standing.
If the muscles around the hips aren’t functioning well, the knee can take on more load than it should.
This is why we look at movement as a whole system rather than focusing only on the area where pain shows up.
In some cases, improving hip strength and control can lead to meaningful improvements in knee symptoms.
Pain location doesn’t always reflect the source of the problem.

If your hamstrings, calves, or neck always feel tight, stretching is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
And yes, it can help, but it is not always the full answer.
In physical therapy, we do not just look at the spot that feels tight.
More often than not, that “tight” muscle is doing a job for something else, like protecting a weaker joint, compensating for
how you are sitting or standing, or picking up slack from limited movement somewhere else.
That’s why you can stretch the same area every day and still feel tight again an hour later.
The goal is not just temporary relief. It’s figuring out what is actually causing that tightness in the first place.
If you’re constantly dealing with tightness that keeps coming back, it may be worth looking at the bigger picture with a physical therapist.

If your knee hurts going down stairs but feels fine going up, there's usually a reason for it!
Going downstairs requires your muscles to work harder to control your body's movement and absorb force.
When those muscles aren't functioning optimally, extra stress can be placed on the knee joint.
In many cases, the source of the problem may not even be the knee itself.
Weakness, stiffness, or movement restrictions elsewhere in the body can all contribute to knee discomfort.
Understanding the cause is the first step toward finding the right solution.
💡 Have you ever noticed your knee hurts more going down stairs than going up?

False.
A lot of people think lymphedema only affects those who have gone through cancer treatment, but that’s not always the case.
Lymphedema can develop for several different reasons, and many people don’t realize the symptoms they’re experiencing could be related to their lymphatic system.
Some common signs include swelling, a feeling of heaviness or tightness, or noticing that shoes, clothing, or jewelry fit differently than they used to.
Because these changes can happen gradually, they’re often easy to dismiss or brush off.
The good news is that early recognition and treatment can make a big difference.

People often use “sprain” and “tear” like they’re the same, but they’re actually different injuries.
A sprain is an injury to a ligament (bone to bone).
It usually happens when a joint is twisted or pushed too far, and it can cause swelling and a feeling of instability.
A tear involves a muscle or tendon (movement and strength).
This often happens from sudden force or overload and usually shows up as pain with movement and weakness.
Both can look similar at first, which is why it’s hard to tell without an evaluation.
A simple way to think about it: sprains affect stability, tears affect strength and movement.
📩 If you’re unsure what you’re dealing with, it’s worth getting it checked out so you can recover the right way.
