Let’s talk about ingrowns, inflammation and the dark spots they can leave behind..

An ingrown creates inflammation in the skin. Once that inflammation settles, it can leave pigmentation behind, especially in melanin-rich skin.
So sometimes the dark spot you’re trying to get rid of is really the aftermath of an ingrown that’s already gone.
That’s why I want to look at what keeps causing the inflammation, not just the pigment that’s left behind.

This is where I’m actually looking at your skin.
How many ingrowns are there? Are they inflamed? Is there a lot of buildup? Are the hairs actually ready to come out?
I’ll exfoliate and extract where it makes sense, but I’m not going to dig around trying to get every single hair out.
If an ingrown is really inflamed or isn’t ready, sometimes I’m leaving her alone for now. Creating more trauma trying to get it out can just create more inflammation.

Your home care matters A LOT here.
Exfoliating consistently once your skin has recovered from your wax, not picking at ingrowns, and paying attention to friction can all make a difference.
Also pay attention to where you keep getting ingrowns. If they’re constantly along your bikini line, for example, I’m going to start asking about tight underwear, leggings, chafing and anything else regularly rubbing that area.
Personally, I’ve also noticed that sleeping without underwear helps me when friction is an issue.

Once I’m seeing fewer active ingrowns and less inflammation, that gives me more room to start getting intentional with pigmentation.
And this is where your treatment can change over time.

I don’t just want to lighten the spots you already have while we keep making new ones.
I want fewer ingrowns, less inflammation and fewer new dark spots while we work on the pigmentation that’s already there.
