Yoga Jawn

This is my yoga.

Truly. Not even being funny about it. More 👇🏼

This is my yoga off the mat. Advocating for a classroom that includes several students still learning communication. A classroom full of beautiful learners that deserve more than YouTube shows and playground time. This is systemic failure from the highest levels of San Diego unified School district. For too long they have pushed special education further and further to the edge.

Classrooms are understaffed at a dangerous level with the excuse of "schedule analysis says it's fully staffed", not accounting for the level of need, only bodies in the room.

Teachers and students are injured, IEPs are not followed, instructional time is dwindling, classrooms of varying levels of support have been removed so now the choices are in a room with no instruction or in a room that doesn't work for the childs needs, pay is so low that positions for teachers and support staff sit open for MONTHS.

This effects all of us. Every student and parent in San Diego unified should ask around in their schools. How does this look here? Is this part of the population supported in my school? Do you even know if there is a high support needs classroom at your school? Ask. And then follow up and ask "how do we include these classrooms in our school activities."

Often advocacy can be small. But it can also be in front of a room of strangers and the director of district special education. You have a right to have this place to share your opinion too. If you'd like to know more how to share your thoughts at these meetings comment below and I'll go with you to the next one. I will also be planning a school board meeting visit in the next few weeks.

This is yoga. Satya, speaking truth to power. Asteya, non stealing and resource justice. We must let the school leaders know we see it and it's wrong. We have a duty to protect resources and education for all students.

I also want to thank Katie Shank for immediately asking "do you want me to go with you" when I told her I was doing this. My fraaaaand to the aaaaannd.
