We were hella messing around on this quick trip we probably climbed more than we actually hiked. Can’t believe we are lucky enough to be only an hour out from nature’s playground.

The most beautiful sights seen on the Minnesota trip this year. The wonder of nature’s beauty can be found everywhere in these vast forests. There is so much to see each trip it can feel a bit overwhelming, but this particular trip left me clinging to Minnesota. I cannot wait to go back and explore even more of its gifts. Seeing its beauty juxtaposed with no data center signs lining streets made me both devastated for and proud of the people of Minnesota for taking on the fight, how anyone could ever want to extort this land’s treasure is beyond me, I feel confident the land will not allow it.

What a trip! Mount Stevenson, Shaver Lake and Dinkey creek were all great escapes from the heat! Pippin got to learn about the brave Dinkey dog while we got to sit in streams and stand amongst giants at McKinley Grove.

Huntington lake for our first time camping this season! Felt great to be back out there, we got to hike the lake, rancheria falls and the Indian pools trail! Huge shout out to Cristian Alarcon for being down for all my adventures and long ass trails.

Another full circle trip to San Francisco!

Alcatraz was not why I expected, it was filled with stories from the 70s Indigenous take over that laid the foundations for so many modern movements like the Dakota pipeline resistance.
Going from Alcatraz to watching our homies on stage calling out injustice, motivating a whole crowd to hope for a better future felt like a cosmically curated day.

Books I’m reading (and recommending) for the kids I work with, will work with, and hope to work alongside. FEAT. Kids books for YOUR kiddos to read!

I’ve been thinking about conservation and agriculture in how it pertains to the future we pass to our kids (obviously as I’ve become the plant lady on here lately😂) and how I envision myself connecting communities to children and children to nature. Each child is so unique, there are so many aspects each child could want to learn that at times I feel overwhelmed trying to know a little of everything myself just in case the right opportunity arises. As I settle into our lovely home I’m thinking of all the ways I can create a cohabiting space for native plants, produce, wildlife and the community (especially kids) to come in and feel nurtured.

I don’t understand how childcare and ALL CARE for our community, our earth and its natural inhabitants, became separated. When we care for the land we care for our kid’s future, when we care for community, we care for kid’s wellbeing. The connections have become so severed that it seems impossible at times to bring all together under my little roof- but I keep reminding myself of a time that this came naturally, more over ancestors prayed for us to rebuild these connections, it’s sacred destiny.

So here I am reading about damn fish (that’s a water pun) while finding kids books about conservation.

Garden update featuring Tank. The native flowers are coming in hot- after a very hot heatwave we’re seeing lots of little blooms all over the yard in our plantitas first year of life! This time last year they were planted and now look at them go ♥️ we’re seeing lots of visitors in the yard from caterpillars spiders and bees to doves finches and blue jays. We’re doing everything possible to invite as much native wildlife (and their urban friends) to our backyard. The big tree in the front yard is a haven for bees and butterflies that have woken up a bit early this year, it’s so lovely to see them buzz around over the house. Chris is having a hard time with all the spiders but they’re doing a good job keeping the flies and mosquitoes at bay especially given how HUGE the compost has gotten! It’s given up tons of fertilizer and even some plants like out pumpkins!

Feeding the community isn’t just about feeding people- it’s about feeding the OGs of the Valley, creating a space where people animals and bugs can all get their needs met is the end goal for our yard- and in our first year I think we’re doing a damn good job.
