Moving energy with touch vs. non-touch

You’ve seen the videos before of people making hand gestures and horses shifting energy by yawning, licking, chewing, and you probably think, what are they even doing… because WHAT ARE THEY EVEN DOING?!

My personal philosophy is that the body often holds tension when energy gets stuck, which can manifest physically as stiffness, knots, and other patterns in the body. Think about the tension you hold in your shoulders or a clenched jaw when you’re stressed. This is why I like melding the physical and energetic pieces of my work, because if you only address what’s showing up physically without looking at what may be underneath it, you’re potentially missing a huge part of the picture.

However… some horses simply aren’t in a place to accept touch. (In comes Mojave… forever testing every belief I have.) He doesn’t release like this with my hands on him and shifts much more easily when he’s given the space and autonomy to do it himself.

If you’ve followed his story, you know he’s been through an immense amount of physical and emotional trauma. Good bodywork requires vulnerability from the horse. We’re asking them to expose the places they’ve been protecting, while psychologically they’re wired to mask weakness or impairment for survival.

So where does non-touch energy work come in? Well, I’m here to tell you it first starts with YOU. This clip was taken before I even “started,” and the shift occurred because I shifted myself first.

If you’ve watched videos like this and thought, “I want to understand what they’re actually doing,” that’s exactly why I created Energy Foundations. It teaches you how to understand what you’re feeling, what your horse is communicating, and how your own energy influences the interaction.

Spirit Horse has evolved a lot over the years, not because it had to, but because I did.

For a long time, I hid behind bodywork. It was something I knew how to explain. It made sense to people. It felt safe.

But it was never the whole story.

The intuitive work has always been there. The energy work has always been there. I just wasn’t always brave enough to let all of it be seen.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped trying to make Spirit Horse fit into a box that made sense to everyone else and started letting it become an honest reflection of me and the way I’ve always understood horses.

And in doing that, I think I came home to myself.

So, this is Spirit Horse. All of it. Welcome to the true magic of horses, I hope you'll join me🤍
