I started collecting coins a long time ago. I wish someone would buy them all. I have so many more to scan.
I want the younger generation to have the coins to enjoy. I am old want be here many more years then someone will just throw them away.

Another super early coin from a farm field that’s been red hot the last four weeks! This is a fantastic King George 1st halfpenny made back in the early 1700s. Right out of the ground it still had detail, but after a little field brushing old George practically popped back to life before my eyes!
This was one of almost twenty large copper coins that came from a small area, so something extraordinary happened here centuries ago. Fast forward 300years and something extraordinary is happening once again, as we dig up all the cool things they lost!

You never know what you'll find when metal detecting a drained lake... I wonder how this one was lost!

An amazing weekend of metal detecting with my friend Alex! I took a trip to Upstate NY to meet up with one of my digging buddies, and we got on a lot of great spots! Old farm houses, a cellar hole, and an old park… here’s the best of what I found!
-1864, 1865, and 1868 Indian Head Cents, plus an unknown date that was ran over by a train, but it’s the nickel silver variety, which dates it from 1859-1864
-1867 Shield Nickel, the first variety of nickel made by the U.S. Mint
-1861 Seated Liberty Dime
-1907 Barber Dime
-1898 Barber Quarter
-Three nice designed brass coat buttons, from the late-1700s to very early-1800s
-Edwardian-era Silver Ring, potentially with real stones inside
-Johnson Farm Machinery watch fob, early-1900s
I was happy to come home with a lot of good finds this trip including a plethora of early coins, a nice silver ring, and some really nice buttons and relics. Definitely a super fun weekend out exploring a new area!

One of my favorite finds even after almost 10 years… my first and only love token!
This was made from an 1856 Seated Liberty Quarter. The back side was sanded down smooth, and then engraved with a personalized design and the initial “G” in the center. On this example, thankfully, the front side was kept intact. It’s neat to see where there was once a pin soldered to it, holding the piece up on one’s coat or perhaps on their lapel.
Wearing love tokens was a major fad of the Victorian-era. These were usually given as a gift of remembrance of a loved one, typically a sweetheart or one you’re married to. This would have been a serious loss to the person who wore it. I’m glad to have saved it from remaining underground and forgotten about for any longer!
