I finally made it back to the farmers market after not going for months. There was a time when I went almost every week, and I want to get back to making it a regular part of my routine.
I didn’t make it to every vendor, but it felt good knowing the ones I used to support still remembered me. I always wonder if people will remember me after being away for so long.
One of my favorite moments was seeing Jeeyun, the kimchi lady. She told me she had just been thinking about me while making her seaweed kimchi... and then I showed up out of the blue. Moments like that remind me how special it is to build genuine connections with the people who grow and make our food.
I kept it simple this time: kale (not pictured), okra, fresh corn, seaweed kimchi, red potatoes, and an elephant ear plant (not pictured).
The plant felt especially meaningful. My Nana loved elephants, and she had a true green thumb. Seeing that elephant ear plant immediately made me think of her. I’ve been bringing more plants into my home lately because, to me, plants represent life, growth, and the reminder to keep nurturing both.
This meal was soaked couscous with avocado and seaweed kimchi. Simple, nourishing, and absolutely delicious.
Sometimes getting back to the things that once grounded you is exactly what you need.

This meetup holds special meaning for me because Lake Mayer is where I hosted the very first Savannah Black Raw Vegan Meetup in August 2017. The park is also connected to many fond childhood memories growing up in Savannah.
When I brought the meetup back outdoors in 2023, Lake Mayer once again became a gathering place for wellness, conversation, and community. Returning here feels like coming full circle. Celebrating nearly 9 years of gathering, connection, and community.
