Plot twist on Historic Main Street! ✨

After a lot of dreaming, paperwork, pacing, and probably an unhealthy amount of coffee… I’ve officially found a building and agreed on a price! Yes, it’s really happening! Yes, I’m equal parts thrilled and mildly terrified! 😄

As soon as the contingency contract is signed, I’ll share the address. I promise I’m not being mysterious for fun… just respecting the process (and legal paperwork tends to frown on premature confetti).

Huge gratitude to the current building owner for being so kind, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping this dream take shape. People like that make bold leaps feel a lot less terrifying.

Thank you all for cheering me on while I chase this historic-Main-Street adventure. More updates soon… and trust me, the excitement level over here is somewhere between “happy dance” and “cartwheels I probably shouldn’t attempt.” 💜

Productivity update: We took a very serious business planning break… to ask AI what it thinks we look like at work. Because clearly that’s essential research. 😅

And y’all… it did not hold back. Apparently we operate exclusively out of historic downtown Shawnee (honestly, manifest it ✨), Jenny has gone full mermaid CEO with purple and teal hair!

We’re not saying these images are accurate… but we’re also not saying they aren’t. At this point we might just lean in and let the AI handle branding too!😆

Hi friends! meet Jenny Grace, owner of Brick & Velvet Salon!

Before stepping into the beauty industry, Jenny spent several years as the Director of Communications for the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs, and was their Education and Training Programs Administrator prior to that. In January 2025, she took a leap into cosmetology school, with her daughter, Nicolle. It wasn’t just a career change for Jenny. It was a calling toward creativity, connection, and community.

Jenny absolutely loves vivid color transformations. Bold hair, expressive styles, and helping people feel confident in their own skin is where her passion lives. And yes… she runs on coffee. If it’s breakfast brew loaded with French vanilla creamer, she’s a happy stylist.

Jenny has always felt a deep connection to historic Main Street in Shawnee. The character, the stories held in those buildings, and the potential of downtown spaces have long captured her imagination. That love of history carries into her personal life as well. Her own Shawnee home, built sometime between 1901 and 1930 depending on which records you trust, reflects the historic charm she naturally gravitates toward.

Three years ago, Jenny and her husband of 18 years moved to Shawnee from Norman with their children and her father-in-law. Together, they’ve been restoring a once forgotten piece of local history, pouring care and intention into bringing it back to life.

For Jenny, the dream of opening Brick & Velvet Salon on historic Main Street is about far more than securing a location. It’s about planting roots in a place she loves, contributing to the community’s growth, and becoming part of the ongoing story of downtown Shawnee. For now, she’s simply waiting for the right space to come along!
