COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing and shooting a woman and a young girl inside a home in east Columbus Wednesday evening.

Derrick Green, 35, was arrested by SWAT officers without incident and is charged with murder.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to a house in the 2000 block of Chatsworth Way around 7:15 p.m. on a well-being check for 33-year-old Shalimar Green and 11-year-old Aliv’eyah Chandler.

Before officers arrived, police said a relative entered the house and found the bodies of Shalimar and Aliv’eyah. Medics responded to the scene and pronounced the two dead.

Franklin County Municipal Court records state that Shalimar and Aliv'eyah, who police believe to be mother and daughter, were found with gunshot and stab wounds. Evidence collected at the scene identified Green as the suspect in both deaths. Detectives found spent cartridges, a bloody knife and blood-soaked clothing inside the home.

Police said Green had left the house before officers arrived.

According to court records, a white 2011 Ford Explorer was missing from the home and a red 2012 Dodge Challenger registered in Green's name was parked out front.

Detectives learned that Green had been sleeping in the Challenger. Court records that .380 ammunition was visible in the front passenger seat and it matched the caliber of the spent cartridges inside the home.

Investigators determined that Shalimar was involved in an ongoing domestic dispute with Green, who was her husband, and the two were in the process of ending their relationship, according to police.

Court records state that on Tuesday, Shalimar saw Green sleeping on the couch with a knife and took it away. She confronted him as to why he was carrying a knife.

A date has not yet been set for Green to appear in court.
