Dear Friends,

I want to thank you all for your continued support of Rock Paper Scissors. After wrestling with this all week, it's with a heavy heart that I have to announce the closing of my studio effective today and for the remainder of March. I will continue to update you all as April approaches. If you have an appointment scheduled during this time please send me an email back so I know you have seen this message. As we watch this progress and unfold the thought of bringing something either into the studio to my clients or back home to my family is not worth the roots or the dead ends. We are in this together and the quicker we can stop the spread of this, the better. I hope you are taking this time to slow down and enjoy your families. Looking forward to seeing you all soon for some amazing before and after photos!

Toner vs. NO Toner via

What exactly is a Toner 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Or a Gloss, or a Glaze, or an Overlay?

First of all they are all the same thing.

Don’t be confused 🤷🏻‍♀️ by the word “toner “. A toner is a service, not a specific product. It’s a word used to describe what we’re doing not what we’re actually using. It’s common to use demi-permanent color but could also be permanent or even semi-permanent and can be used to neutralize, enhance or brighten your hair. •

Unfortunately nobody’s hair lifts ashy, or beige, or silver but I can guarantee you that it will lift orange 🍊or yellow 🍌and if those are not your favorite colors then a toner may be necessary. The word toner has a bad reputation to a lot of clients. It’s been rumored that when you tone a client it’s because you did something wrong and that’s just not the case. As a matter of fact clients with virgin hair lift so beautifully sometimes that you may not need one ☝🏼 but if your looking for customized colors such as champagne, platinum, rose gold, etc. then you’ll definitely need to use one.
Important things to remember when toning....
* if you want ashy tones lift past where you need to be and tone down (example: lift to 8, tone with 7) * to brighten dull ends use a level lighter and add gold * for fashion tones like rich violets and bright reds try using a direct dye overlay •

Everything we do is temporary...
EVERYTHING. If it wasn’t we’d never make any money 💰 so you can expect your toners to be temporary as well. The healthier the hair, the longer it will last, the more damaged or porous the more temporary it will be and may require more frequent maintenance.

Hey y’all...so let’s have that difficult conversation about unrealistic pictures and expectations. This post is for client information and for stylist support. .

So where do we begin? The picture that you see on the left is an unaltered photo of my guest from this past week. The one on the right is an altered picture that took me roughly 60 seconds in an app. How many of y’all bring in those paper white platinum blonde pictures to your stylists? Well I’m here to gently tell you that more then likely the picture that you brought in is not of the actual color that guest left with and is not an achievable goal. .

“Well Kristen, you don’t know because I have seen platinum hair before and it does exist.” 👈🏻 Hey girl, I totally get where you are coming from, but if you have any of the following then this is not for you: 1️⃣ Your a dark brunette 2️⃣ you have previously colored hair. 3️⃣ you want low maintenance 4️⃣ you want to keep your hair long AND healthy 5️⃣ you only have a budget of $200 and want it done in 1 session. .

Ok so who at the end of the day can achieve the picture on the right realistically? The guests who come in with virgin hair that is a medium brunette-light Blonde who has the ability to budget $600-$1200 for their hair over a period of 3-9 months. Holy s**t right?! How many people did I just p**s off ✋🏻 I mean I kinda want to unfollow myself if it were possible 😂😂 .

🗣 listen y’all, I am here to educate you, lift you up, set you up for success and give you realistic expectations. I’m that friend who tells you the truth and doesn’t sugar coat even though you think “well damn could you sugar coat it a little bit?” My answer is no, It is my obligation to sometimes give you the ugly truth if you need it. .

My point being hear, don’t always believe what you see. Trust your stylist if they say it will take sessions, and RUN AWAY if someone says they can do it all in 1 session for $200...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And the most trying time for cold and flu. Just a friendly reminder to please reschedule if you are sick.
