Hip labral reconstruction is a relatively new option for patients with non-arthritic hip pain. Numerous studies within the last decade have demonstrated excellent patient-reported outcomes, high rates of return-to-play in athletes, and low failure rates in patients having undergone labral reconstruction of the hip.
Dr. David Goodwin is one of the few doctors in Northern Virginia performing this amazing procedure. In this case, the patient had 2 prior hip scopes with a nonhealing labrum and daily pain. After seeing Dr. Goodwin for a third opinion and learning about this new option with excellent clinic results, she decided to give it a go.
For her, labral reconstruction could mean returning to her normal, pain-free life – and it could for you, too!

Rest, ice, over-the-counter pain medication, even injections – you’ve done it all. But the tendon pain caused by overuse, injury, calcification or a bony prominence is still there, nagging at you day after day. You’d prefer to avoid surgery. So, what’s next?
The Tenex Health TX System provides a revolutionary, single-procedure treatment for chronic tendon pain that takes only minutes under local anesthesia.
The simple procedure starts with a quick look using diagnostic imaging (such as ultrasound, fluoroscopy, or a C-Arm) to determine the exact source of your pain. Your doctor then makes a mini-incision and inserts the TX MicroTip. Using advanced ultrasonic energy, it precisely cuts and removes diseased soft tissue, while preserving healthy tendons. For most patients, this means less discomfort, no stitches, and a return to activity up to 4 times faster than open surgery.

Although your surgery/injury comes with expected goals and predicted healing times, 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 rehab journey is different – even if you experienced the exact same thing at the exact same time as someone else!
Every person has so many different factors that make their recovery UNIQUE to them:
Job and home life + Sleep habits + Genetics + Past surgeries + Pain thresholds + Goals (short-term and long-term) + So many other variables = 𝗗𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗦!
Every single one of these things influences how your journey will unfold. Just because your recovery is different from someone else’s, doesn’t mean you won’t reach the same end goals.
Set realistic goals that you can meet. Take your recovery at your own pace. And above all else, listen to your therapist and your body.

Precision health data now can help you prevent injuries and illness in the future.

Tomorrow is your last day to donate to the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots!
The holiday season is a time for giving, and it’s also the perfect time to donate to the charities you know and love. That’s why Arthritis & Sports is partnering once again with the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots to spread holiday cheer to children in need.
Through December 8th, you can drop off a new, unwrapped toy when you visit any of our clinic locations.
The laser has been busy lately! Not only are we offering stand-alone laser therapy for rapid wound healing and scar reduction, but our physical therapists are excited to start adding our MLS laser to their bag of tricks to help our patients heal post-surgery.
The Multiwave Locked System (MLS) is quickly becoming the standard of care for alleviating pain, reducing inflammation, and speeding recovery. After the first MLS laser treatment, many patients have said they noticed less swelling and that their body just “felt different”.
Our goal is to get our patients ahead of schedule and healing stronger than before. This is just one more way we are helping our patients get better FASTER!

You’re getting up from your seat, walking across the room, or doing a weighted squat, and suddenly, a “pop” emanates from your knee. Should you be worried?
The answer is “maybe”. While there are several perfectly innocent reasons for “crepitus”, it can indicate some underlying problem. It can be a sign of early or even moderate osteoarthritis, with the sounds being caused from the underside of the kneecap rubbing against the front of the thighbone.
A loud popping sound usually means something very wrong has happened, especially if accompanied by pain and/or swelling. Injuries that can initiate knee pops include: ACL/MCL tears, meniscus tears, Baker’s cyst ruptures, and patella subluxations.
Sometimes, these injuries are mild enough for simple treatments like RICE or physical therapy – but they can also be severe enough to require surgery. You won’t know for sure until a doctor gets a look at your knee.
The key takeaway is this – don’t grin and bear it. If you knee makes a loud popping noise (or even a series of popping noises), get it checked out right away.

The holiday season is a time for giving, and it’s also the perfect time to donate to the charities you know and love. That’s why Arthritis & Sports is partnering once again with the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots to spread holiday cheer to children in need.
With your support on this , we can bring joy to less fortunate children this holiday season.
Through December 8th, you can drop off a new, unwrapped toy when you visit any of our clinic locations.

“This is an excellent Orthopaedic clinic and practice. I have had both knees replaced and have received excellent care and therapy. The physicians assistants take time for check-ups and Dr. Peyton is an excellent surgeon. Although I do not live in the Leesburg area now, I continue to have Arthritis and Sports monitor any arthritis concerns. I only have great things to say about this professional team!”

Losing weight during the festive holiday season is not a reasonable goal.
In fact, 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 during these festivities is the same as losing weight any other time of the year!
While there are many healthy recipe swaps you can prepare, our nutritionist sees nothing wrong with serving the traditional recipes that Grandma used to make.
The main meal isn’t what causes you to gain weight, it’s the left-over pie and gravy laden turkey and potatoes that you eat for days on end! Here are some quick tips to help you balance the scales:
- Don’t skip meals - this will only cause you to eat larger portion of high-calorie foods.
- Exercise daily - even if you speed walk at the mall or work up a sweat cleaning your house
- Buffet tip - survey the options before filling you plate and decide what the “must have” dishes are
- Limit snack treats to one per day and make it count!
- Don't be too hard on yourself - If you go off the deep-end eating dessert at work, remember to practice self forgiveness, awareness and compassion

🫲 WHAT EXACTLY IS HAND THERAPY 🫱
☞ A hand therapist could be a Physical Therapist or an Occupational Therapist. In most cases, your hand therapist has become a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) after completing extensive additional training in hand therapy.
☞ Hand therapists provide rehab and treatment for many problems and conditions affecting the upper limb (from your fingers and wrist to your elbow and shoulder), including chronic conditions, injuries, pain, and more.
☞ Your ’physical therapy’ is replaced by hand therapy. Your hand therapist takes care of all your rehab, from start to discharge. Sometimes this can be as simple as getting a custom splint made and sending you on your way!
☞ A hand therapist will set goals with you to get you back to whatever you want - from picking up your 👶 or a 🍺, tying your 👟 or your 👔, or finally changing that burned-out 💡.
If you have any concerns related to a hand injury, give us a call 📱

What is the difference between custom orthotics vs over-the-counter (OTC) insoles?
If you are looking for a therapeutic effect for your feet and body, custom orthotics are the way to go. Store-bought insoles are often just cushions providing you with some bounce for a couple of weeks. Custom orthotics are corrective and make a therapeutic improvement to your feet and symptoms.
Custom orthotics and proper footwear may be the key to solving your pain, optimizing performance, and preventing injury. Call us today to schedule your consult!

Post-surgical pain often has people reaching for harsh opioids to manage discomfort during their recovery. CBD offers an alternative that may help minimize the need for reliance on pills.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) recently published an article highlighting cannabinoids as one of the most promising alternatives to pain medicine after surgery. The following are some of the key takeaways from the AAOS Now article:
💊 Current research concerning cannabinoids in orthopaedic surgery has demonstrated promising results in the areas of pain alleviation, bone metabolism, and other orthopaedic outcomes.
💊 In a clinical study, patients who took CBD after surgery experienced an average 25% less pain compared to patients receiving a placebo. They also reported higher satisfaction with pain control, and experienced no major side effects.
💊 Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in ma*****na, with the most well-known being THC and CBD, which target naturally existing receptors in the body to modulate their downstream effects on serotonin, dopamine, and opioid receptors.
💊 CBD does not produce a “high,” does not appear to be addictive, and does not stimulate appetite or lead to withdrawal.
