There’s something pretty special about getting to be a tiny part of someone’s really big day. 🖤💍

This morning I had the privilege of getting the groom and his party cleaned up and wedding-ready. And I’m incredibly grateful they trusted me to do it.

Lots of laughs, fresh cuts, good people, and one very full barber cart. 😂✂️

Congratulations Jace and Bailey! Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, and really good hair. 🥂

💈 Things your barber actually WANTS you to tell them:

“I don’t like how my hair sticks out right here.”

“My last cut was too short.”

“I have no idea what I want, I just know I hate what it’s doing right now.”

“I’m trying to grow this part out.”

“I don’t style my hair. Like… ever.”

“I liked it better two haircuts ago.”

ALL useful information. 😂

You do not need to know barber terminology. You don’t have to know what guard number you get. You don’t even have to know what the haircut is called.

Tell me what you like, what you hate, what drives you absolutely insane about your hair, and how much effort you’re realistically willing to put into it every morning.

That tells me WAY more than “just do a 2 on the sides.”

Your barber cannot read your mind.

National barber day!! 😎😎😎

Happy National Barber Day to two people we couldn’t be more proud to have behind the chair—Katie and Xavier! 💈✂️🖤

If you know Katie, you love Katie. She has a way of connecting with people on such a personal level, and you can genuinely feel how much she loves her clients and her craft. Watching her step into a new area, dive in headfirst, and pour everything into building her business and planting her roots here in Murray County has been incredible. She has been such a blessing to Painted Pretty, and we love having her as part of our team, our events, and everything we do. She is kind, inspiring, incredibly talented, and simply one of those people you feel lucky to know. 🖤

And then there’s Xavier—our newest barber with some seriously big dreams. He loves this industry so much and is constantly doing everything he can to learn, adapt, connect with great minds, and become a little better than he was the day before. He is a perfectionist who can be pretty hard on himself, but that comes from a genuine love for his craft and a deep desire to become one of the greats.

Even this early in his career, Xavier has impressed all of us with his dedication, perseverance, and determination to leave his own mark on the industry. He is steadily building his clientele, putting himself out there, and growing with every cut. We know this is only the beginning, and we cannot wait to see where his drive takes him. I have a feeling even he doesn’t realize yet just how much he is capable of accomplishing—but we do. 🔥

Katie and Xavier, we are so proud of you both! Your journeys may look different, but the heart you each have for this craft is undeniable. Painted Pretty and Murray County are lucky to have you—and we love watching you both grow! 💈🖤

💈 THINGS YOUR BARBER WISHES YOU KNEW: Episode 1 💈

PSA: Dry scalp and dandruff are NOT necessarily the same thing. 👀

See some flakes and immediately think “Oh God, I have dandruff”?

Not so fast. 😂

🧴 DRY SCALP happens when your scalp doesn’t have enough moisture. The flakes are usually smaller and drier, and your scalp may feel tight or itchy.

❄️ DANDRUFF is commonly associated with an oily, irritated scalp and can cause larger flakes that may look white or yellowish. It’s often connected to seborrheic dermatitis and a yeast that naturally lives on our skin.

And here’s where people accidentally make things worse:

If your scalp is dry and you attack it with harsh dandruff shampoo when you don’t actually need it, you may dry and irritate it even more. 😬

On the flip side, dumping oils all over actual dandruff isn’t necessarily the answer either.

✨ THE BARBER PSA: Flakes are a symptom—not a diagnosis.

Pay attention to whether your scalp is oily or dry, how the flakes look, whether there’s redness or irritation, and whether it keeps coming back.

And if it’s severe, painful, spreading, or just refuses to go away? That’s when your barber lovingly says:

“Friend, this has exceeded my pay grade. Go see a dermatologist.” 😂

Thank you for attending Things Your Barber Wishes You Knew. 💈🖤

📢 NEW HOURS STARTING OCTOBER 1ST

After 16 years behind the chair—and honestly, working in some form since I was about 12—I’ve decided it’s time for me to slow down a little.

Starting October 1st, my regular shop hours will be:

✂️ Tuesday–Friday
🕘 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

I love what I do, and I love the people who have kept my chair full all these years. But lately I’ve realized that I don’t want to spend my entire life working and someday look back wishing I had given more of that time to my husband, my kids, my family, my home, and myself.

My body has been telling me to slow down for a while, and some recent health concerns have made me finally listen.

I’m not retiring. I’m not disappearing. I’m just learning that being good at my job doesn’t require giving every available hour of my life to it.

So this is me choosing a little more balance, a little more family time, and hopefully a lot more years behind the chair. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, respected my time, and grown with me over the years.

October 1st: Tuesday–Friday, 9–4.
Same Katie. Same fades. Slightly less exhaustion. 😎✂️

🚨 In honor of Labor Day, I have made the brave and courageous decision to…

✨ NOT LABOR. ✨

I work too damn much. 😂
I’ve cut enough hair and heard “just a little off the top” enough to earn myself a federal holiday. 💀😂

So Monday, September 7th, FadieByKatie will be CLOSED.

I will be participating in the traditional Labor Day activities of:
✋ Not answering work messages
✋ Not holding clippers
✋ Not asking “how are we cutting it today?”
✋ Sitting my ass DOWN

Regularly scheduled barber shenanigans will resume after I’ve had one full day of pretending I don’t have a job. 😂✌️

Happy Labor Day, y’all.
This laborer ain’t laboring. 💈🇺🇸
