Bored me made plans for future me... and for once it was a really good idea. 💚
Richland Balsam, six kids, one tired dog, and a whole lot of mountain air. We had such a good time that we are already planning the next one 🌲🥾🐾

Raising six kids means everything takes longer... but it also means there's always an extra set of hands.
Today Scarlett helped me can some of the hog meat we had in the freezer. She added spices and seasonings, packed jars, mashed meat down with the wooden spoon, and took her job very seriously.
One day she probably won't remember the details of canning day, but I hope she remembers standing at the counter beside me learning how to do things for herself.
That's the kind of heritage we are trying to pass down. Useful skills, a strong work ethic, and the confidence that comes from knowing how to provide for your family. ❤️

When you tell your husband you want a display for the spoons and spatulas Papaw made for you... and he absolutely delivers. 😍

Yesterday Papaw stopped by and brought us some treasures! Some of the prettiest bowls yet.
Honestly, I don’t know if I can part with them 😅
Once I finish conditioning them, I’ll share more photos, but for now enjoy these closeups of the grain!
Any guesses on the wood types?
Something special is headed to Balsam Ridge Traditions today… 🤎
Handmade. Appalachian. Full of history and old ways.
I’ve been waiting a long time to share these with y’all.

Sometimes slowing down isn’t so bad.
There’s not much a hot bath, a little herbal comfort, and some essential oils can’t help… even if it’s just for a minute.
I think that’s one reason I love the old ways so much. We don’t always have to overcomplicate things. Simple remedies still work.

Fresh bagels in the bowl, kids playing in the creek, and research spread out across the table.
Trying to find joy in a slower season I didn’t choose, but somehow found myself in anyway.
Let’s just hope Dustin and the kids can keep up with my pretend bakery 😅
